Hi,
My machine is MUCH happier to start after the block heater has been plugged in for a few hours. If it's plugged in it starts pretty much like summertime.
I asked around on TBN a bit a few weeks ago, inquiring about the need to heat up the tranny oil as well. The general consensus seemed to be it's OK to run the hydro tranny without a heater as long as you take it easy for the first 10 or 15 minutes. The suggestion of a magnetic heater for the tranny case was made too, and I think I'll do that. We've been between -20 and -43degC over the last week. I haven't had to start my tractor, but if I did I'd prefer to have the tranny heated too.
