I partially block my radiator for snow removal. We have to up north. It isn’t good to not let your diesel get into it’s operating range and work it. The reason for restricting air flow. When that air is -10F it doesn’t take much air to cool your BX!

Haven’t you seen a winter front on a pickup truck?

You have said it all!

Speaking of cold weather....It is about -7 deg F here tonight, and at 6 PM I went out to start my B3030, for one to see if it would start, and for 2 it is supposed to be a high of 0 deg F and low of - 20 deg F for the next week, and I figure if I ran it tonight it would have a better chance of it starting later this week if we get snow, which we are supposed to get 3 to 6 inches. Anyway I have it parked outside in front of the garage so the north wind can't hit it, but I do not have a block heater.............so when I went out to start it tonight, Held the glow plugs for about 20 seconds and a few puffs of white smoke later she was idling and warming up, sounded pretty rough at first though. I guess I was happy and impressed that it started on the first couple cranks. I let it run for an hour then I went out and scraped the inch of snow off the drive for the next 45 minutes. What I've been trying to get to is that my gauge on my B3030 barely moves in the summer, maybe gets up to the 1st quarter mark, and in the winter, like tonight I can't really tell if it moves.

good posts! I am going to try the cardboard/plastic in front of the radiator tomorrow and see how it works. It's been -15C here for a few days and it is suppose to be colder with more snow for the next week so I will out there tractoring.

Northland - Do cut a hole in the centre of it (I arrived at a 6" x 6" square hole by trial and error, someone above cut a 6" dia. round hole). The hole should be roughly centered on the fan centre so as not to cause undue bending stresses on the fan blades. A round hole is probably better in this respect, but I suspect there is not much difference.
