Does anyone know if they made a roll bar for this model? The bar that bolts by seat and goes around over driver.

I am sure a ROPS is available for your tractor as it was a popular model. That said, they aren't cheap. Hoyetractor.com might have them available.

Has anyone taken there dash out on a 186? I am trying to get it off to replace my hour meter/rpm cable. Do I really have to take my steering column off ?

Yes. No.

It's a nightmare to take off the cowl assembly. BTDT.

But I was able to detach the tach cable and oil it without removing the cowl. As i recall I used micro-sized Channelock pliers, and also pushed a lot of wiring out of the way to make room. Might have removed the turn signal flasher or ignition switch etc to make room, don't remember. If you have an 8 year old with tiny hands, give her the Channelocks and lots of encouragement.

Lol that's what I tried from the opening. I also tried taking every bolt and screw out of everything in that area and just can seem to get it. What a pain. I will get my son to try.

I think OSHA says they are mandatory if you have an employee operating the tractor. But my second YM186D has a landscaping company name stencilled on it. The owner before me bought it from them. No ROPS. No way that was bought to be used solely by its owner. No ROPS on my first YM186D either but its history was unknown. Maybe the original owners removed them.

I mounted the YM186D adjustable rear hubs flange-out, and the wheels outside of those, contrary to what shows in all Yanmar photos of this model. That additional width and water ballast in the tires seem sufficient. And I chose this particular model because it runs on little 16" rear wheels. It seems pretty stable.

In contrast, the YM240 seemed tall, narrow, spooky. It would be impossible to climb off of if it started to go over. I was the first YM240 owner to order a YM2000 ROPS from Hoye. (fits perfectly, these models are twins).

You are correct. Low clearance orchard type straddle tractors are excepted under 1928.51(farming) where used as such, or used indoors. Landscaping could be 1926 or 1910, and I don't think any exception is allowed.

Finally got the hour cable fixed. What a pain. What's a good rpm for using the loader ?

Depends on whether you are trying to sneak up on a pallet with your pallet forks. Standing up so you can see the fork tips. In that case, as slow as possible for the last couple of ft. :D

Maybe 1100 rpm or better for casual loader use, faster if you need more oomph. I think you have full hydraulic pressure over maybe 1400 rpm.

How did you finally get to the tach cable?

I sure see a lot of people operating their tractor with 1/2 the ROPS folded down. Most likely not wearing the seat belt either....Seems like if you are wearing your seat belt and have the ROPS all the way up, and you still roll over, you are still going to be hurt.. just hopefully not killed
