Always amazes me how many Adults don't know which way North is. I guess it would be worse if they know North but not which way East was.

I remember, prior to having a compass, watching out for Sat dishes on farm houses to get my bearings. Sun going down helped too, except you knew you had little time to get your bearings.

HATE when roads don't go North-South or East West and that's where you want to go. All the roads in this region are askew, and you have to zig zag never knowing which route is shortest and making any turn always has you going in the wrong direction.

Talk about confusing... there are sections of road here where you go East on Rte 1 and West on Rte 4 at the same time.
Blame the French on roads that follow geographic features VS straight roads in north America.

They may go back a lot farther than that, at least in this part of the country. I believe that some of our roads were trails long before anybody came over from Europe. We have one highway here known as "The Airline" which got it's name long before Orville and Wilbur. In the 1800's it was the route of the "Airline Stagecoach".

Few things ever gave me confidence in a person or customer than when they spoke of the east wall as opposed to the wall beside the fountain or beside the driveway. Dammm, I like when people can communicate on the same page.

I've travelled the Airline and wondered why it was thus named. Nice grade where the forest fire observation tower used to be.

Generally, I have a good sense of direction. But when I lived in Puyallup, Wa there was a road south of town that had some gentle curves and twists that always threw me off. After the curves and such there was a straight section. When I was on that I would swear I was going due south, even when the setting sun was directly in front of me.

I also like to look at maps before I go somewhere. I like to get some out of bounds parameters, i.e. if I get to road X, I must have missed a turn. That is useful when you are on a road, make no turns, but road has changed name four times. Or when you get to an intersection and to the left is one name, and to the right is a completely different name.

So you've driven past my house? :D

Depending on what map you use, the road to my town has 4 names in half a mile. And if you get an older map, a fifth and sixth name appears.

My old Nokia smartphone was like a Garmin, you download the maps onto the phone. You could shut off data, because you didn't need a tower.

The signal reception on the Nokia was outstanding. It would work where no other smart or dumb phones would work.

Too bad that the Nokia Windows phone just didn't catch on, because I liked mine a lot.
