Compact Cubs vs Kubota

The 7xxx cubs are darn nice rigs. Nill name recognition but based on (I think) Mitsubishi tractors. I was ready to buy the 26hp HST but realize the re-sale on these is in the toilet. I am now stepping back to consider the other 'colors' before doing the deal on the cub.

I am EXTREMELY happy with my 7265. What with the snow storm we just had in Buffalo (again), I was glad to know it was in the garage and ready to go! Of course I'm happy with it's summer jobs too. Most of the snow is usually gone by august so I can plow and disk and mow.....

I've owned a 7275 since 1995. I had a Kubota 7100 a few years before that. The 7100 was not perfect a few minor problems. The cub has been perfect up to now. I believe you really get your money's worth with a cub. I recently thought about trading "up" to a b2910. However when I looked one over and test drove it it was apparent the kubota was at least 40% less of a tractor even though similiar HP. I would have regretted trading down to this overgrown lawn mower. B seris Kubota's are overpriced and overrated. The L series is another story. People who have owned smaller kubotas or riding mowers I could see would be impressed with a 2910 but for me it was an expensive major step down. (Dealer wanted my cub + $6800 for 2910 mid mower and fel) I realize kubota propaganda permeates all the small tractor web sites. They are a good tractor but for the money you could so much better for yourself by looking at other so called off brands including a cub. They say a comperably equiped cub7305 is similiar in price to a b2910. That may be so however for that price kubota is offering a considerably smaller, lighter and less equiped tractor for the same money! Mitsubishi the manufacturer of cub is every bit as respected world wide as is kubota. However kubota has establihed itself in the US over the years through its many dealerships. Very good marketing. I suppose its wise to think of resale value. But I belive the vast majority of us will be buying for life. So dont worry if your next tractor does not say kubota on the side. They do not have a lock on quality no matter what the brainwashed dealer tells you. Dont be taken in by the hype. Take it from me an owner of both brands the cub is a tough solid well built tank. Dont pay more for less because its says Kubota use your judgment and common sense and look for testimonials like mine to help you decide.

As a happy owner of a Cub 7260, I have to agree with a lot of what Charlie says. I looked at all of the brands before I bought, and ended up with the Cub. For me, resale value was not a factor in my decision as my intention was to keep my tractor for many years. Having said that, I understand the resale value of a Cub around my neck of the woods is not that much different than a Kub. Mine now has about 225 hard working hours on it, without a problem. I also think yellow is a real nice color (matches my old Norton Commando!).

Charley, I certainly wouldn't discourage anyone from buying the Cub Cadet. Before I bought the B7100 in 1995, I also looked at and priced the Cubs (I had a new Cub Cadet AGS2130 riding mower at the time and liked it). I really liked the looks of the Cub Cadet tractors, as well as some of the other features, but when I sat on one, it just simply was not comfortable; felt like it was made for a driver about 6" shorter than me. That's one of the reasons I recommend folks try out the different brands. I'm partial to Kubota, but know several of the others make good tractors, and think everyone should buy the one that feels right to them.

I have recently been looking for my first REAL tractor. Been looking at the Cub Cadet. Very nice machine. Don't see much on this or other boards, about them. Sure would help to have owners of these nice looking tractors telling about their CUB experience and reliability. Kubota is very good machine and still looking at NH and JD.

Cub Vs Kubota is a tough question. I have a 1994 Case-IH 1120 FWD with turf tires, Hydro, Remote rear HYD, Kubota 52" rear blower and Woods RM 550 grooming mower. This tractor is the same as the 20 horse cub only mine is pained red and has the heavier Case/ALO loader with the heavy 54" bucket. Case stopped with Mitsi in 1994 and Cub took over. While I am glad mine is red and silver, The Cub compacts are typically heavier than the Kub in the same class and I like the loaders on the Cub (woods) better than KUB (mine wieghs 2600 lbs with the loader alone). My tractor has 500 hours on it, runs better every day I have it (break-in is 1000hrs) and the HYD outlets in the rear are slick for the Hyd chute rotator on the blower. Fit and finish is OK, not on par with the Allis Chalmers/Hinimoto I had before and is not quite as good as Ferguson and New Holland. The machine will start and run in extreme cold in Maine and is very easy to service. I would not be afraid to go with Cub since Harvester still stocks every part for my machine and they are identical to Cub.

My wife and I operate a small, part-time landscape design business specializing in Japanese style gradens. We own three compact Cub Cadets; two 7230's manual transmission, one 7275 hydro with mfwd. All three machines have been little or no trouble to operate and maintain. Some small wear related items failed early: loader control lever boot ripped, a hood decal peeled, a battery corroded for no apparent reason, and there have been a few paint related problems caused by exposure to the weather. All of these were easily fixed for little cost. I agree about the fit and finish, but on the 1995 7230 only, and even then it was no big deal. The hydro is by far and away the most popular for ease of operation, the newer version is the 7305 and has a 30hp 3 cylinder diesel as opposed to our 27hp 3 cylinder. This amounts to little when you run both machines for anything but mowing, the 30hp has a slight edge having a bit more grunt for the heavy grass. At the time, these machines represented a fine bargain for a new machine, however, the price competition has become ever closer and makes like NH and Kubota have added features and models that best the Cubs. Product lines don't often match feature for feature exactly from one mfg. to another so one maker may have a feature you like but can't be had with another. By and large, the Cubs are great machines and one needn't worry about parts should MTD decide to end the line (and they have no such plans), Mitsubishi, Case, and MTD make good money from parts and would be loath to end such a lucrative business. Cub hasn't done as well in some parts of the country due mainly to the intense brand loyalty that Deere, NH, Case, and Kubota enjoy. The single most critical comment I have concerning MTD is the dealer/service issue. Not every Cub dealer is top flight, there are some that got into the sales with little more than lawn mower experience and are lost when it comes to small diesel repair. This is changing, Cub is improving, and I think in the not too distant future the only thing separating the compacts will be color.
