I was at a friends today, and some guy was there with a mint restored (barn find) 81 VW Diesel pickup. Not that one that had folding sides. What a strange sight. I asked him if you could get a camper for it.

Those things go for crazy money now....

Quirky, underpowered, and (even by 80's standards) spartan..... they do seem to resonate with certain folks....

I remember Patrick Bedard writing an OpEd in C&D back when, about never really knowing what vehicles will float your boat..... one of these VW pickups was one he cited, having driven it across a couple of big States in top gear @ the Rev Limiter - with a stupid grin on his face.....

Healthy engine, should be around 40mpg US.

It just looked so small as I parked my stock GMC 2500 next to it. Like a toy. The fist thing I said is that he should lower it.

Funny how much the front end looked like off a Reliant K.

Stick and diesel v8, factory lockers...... I'd give up redundant body parts to get one of those here......

All that ability, and still gets better hwy mileage than a lot of minivans here

Completely restored, and not for a bid, but a fixed price!

Completely restored, and not for a bid, but a fixed price!

Just takes one buyer..... plenty of 6 figure+ "boats" in Miami; even at that price, it may be an impulse-buy for somebody who wants to show up at the marina in something different.......

Example of it not taking much Demand, with little Supply.....

Well structured and run site. Been entertaining myself (only!) reading on that site for quite a while...... never ceases to amaze me what shows up there....... they've stayed away from boats and airplanes AFAIK, but other than that, you'll see E V E R T H I N G. Good detail in the initial presentation, and often extremely knowledgeable people show up to intelligently add and discuss further information - much like TBN at it's best....

Still finding vehicles that I never knew existed on that site.....

Stayed away from bidding there....... w/o Leno or Buffet deep pockets, it's way too easy to end up living in one of many shipping containers, staring at your collection !

Mostly "Here", in this, but talks about the 2.0L dzl that they get "Not Here" in the Ranger Raptor (now in new Transit, at least USA).
