With all the county and state fairs going on here in Indiana, I was wondering if anyone has heard or seen compact tractor pulling or racing????

Any bets on which models would be the best pullers in the compact class - I'm partial to blue myself.

Eric,
They have those and lawn tractor pulls. The fire dept. where I live has one the biggest lawn tractor pulls in the midwest. You would not believe how they have these things tricked out. It's pretty neat to see.

I went to a compact tractor pull in Moline Il. wanted to enter my B7100, was told no kubota's and no 4x4's ?. Have not gone back to another one. Now have a Bx 2200 would like to enter this one, do not know if rules are the same.

I am curious - do the 4X4 make that much difference on a pull. Seems a little short sighted that they don't have a class for each. I would love to pull my little boomer. I have seen several garden tractor pulls - I am considering converting one of my older Sears Suburbans.

ecard,

<font color=blue>one of my older Sears Suburbans</font color=blue>

I have been looking for parts (clutch drive pulley, bearings) for quite a while for my Suburban. Do you have any idea where parts can be obtained?

ecard, I don't really know, personally, how much difference 4x4 makes, but I've had a farmer neighbor tell me the same size tractor with 4WD has about 25% more pulling power than a 2WD.

At the tractor pull I've gone to the last few years they just recntly got into this sort of thing. At first it was just modified lawn tractors. Now they have old tractor sheet metal used on a scratch built frame and usaully powered by snowmobile or motorcycle engines. It is quite interesting to watch.
Still there is nothing that beats the full size tractors.

One of the primary reasons we buy 4wd is supposed to be that it gives more power when pushing the loader into a pile. Assuming that is true, 4wd should then also have greater pulling power. Traction is traction. Isn't it?

In my limited experience 4wd make a big difference. I feel it's most noticeable during FEL operations. It's also been noticeable with a box blade full of rocks. I personally don't leave my tractor in 4wd all the time. I have lots of rocks and need to make sharp turns, and turning seems easier without 4wd engaged. But, if I'm on a steep, rocky slope with a load you bet that 4wd is on.

Twinkle Toes - I have some parts for older sears - please let me know model and year and I will tell you if I have it. Also there is a real serious Sears Tractor Club on Yahoo Clubs:

http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/thesearsgardentractorclub

These guys should be able to help.

I have been told that the older Sears tractors are some of the best pullers - go figure?

At tractor pulls you're scored by how much you can pull compared to what you weigh- a light tractor can look good by that criteria.

I'd put my money on <font color=red>Red</font color=red>, <font color=red>Farmall Red</font color=red>!

Seem's they don't do pulls around here that I have ever heard of (N. Calif). I have seen posts on other forums of people at least trying thier "antique compacts" at pulling.

I would guesstimate that my Farmall "A" would do a pretty good job pulling, if the front and rear wheel weights were installed.

My "A" is about the same size and HP as my Kubota B8200. Maybe I could wrangle up Harv one weekend to come drive the B8200 while I drive the Farmall, and see what happens. I could off-load the loader from the Kubota. The B8200 is HST, 4x4, with turf's. The Farmall is gear, of course, with big Ag's on the back.

Might be fun! Harv???

Robert -

Never tried one of them new-fangled HST jobbies, but I'm willing to learn.

Turfs vs Ag's in a traction contest? Now that would be interesting. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I'll be right over as soon as I have a surplus of time and money. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Rat,

<font color=blue>drag your Farmall Red into the lake, </font color=blue>

Is the 454D a submersible or is the chain stretched across the lake?/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Al with an "A" as in Farmall

Twinkle Toes, Robert lives on the south side of Folsom Lake from me. He is in the town of Shingle Springs and I am just north in Newcastle. I was hoping to get a little spirited competition aroused. I'm not even sure what a tractor pull is. Do they pull a weight or do they pull each other? Rat...

Was at one last night, and had a great time - watching. Go to the NTPA site for Nat'l Tractor Pulling Assn. They will talk about rules, classes, pulling sleds, history (back to horses), links to other associations, etc. You may find it interesting.

I'm ready /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Say, aint that 454D <font color=red>Red</font color=red> too? They used <font color=red>Farmall Red</font color=red>, even after they dropped the <font color=red>Farmall</font color=red> moniker /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Ya, there might not be much more than a pond by the end of this summer season!

I'm thinking my 19hp A might be a close match to my 19hp B8200 though /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

New fangled? Heck my B8200 is practically an antique compared to your tractor /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Not like the Farmall, but...

For the turf's vs ag's, well, it'd be a run what ya's brung, and since it's what I got, and all I'll have for a bit, well, it'd just be a fun time /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Surplus of time and money? Heck, I was thinking about coming to work for you!
