I'm just getting ready to retire from 35 years with the fed govt and want to purchase a tractor for my own use and maybe to do work for neighbors (the kind too big for a shovel and wheelbarrow) to contribute to the payments! I'm looking at something comparable to the Kubota BX-23. As a newbee, I'd appreciate some advice so I can start looking at other tractor brands/models that are comparable.

Hey, HeyDog! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Welcome to TBN! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif You've come to the right place to get information. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif So get your cup of coffee, or other beverage of choice, and sit back and start reading!

I myself am in almost the exact position as you are. I'll be retiring from my government (local) job in about 16 months. I also want to get a tractor, but I'm looking for something a little larger. Like in the 35 - 40 hp range.

I'm sure a lot of the knowledgeable folks here will jump in with info. It always helps to provide a little more information about what your plans are, exactly what kinds of jobs you'll be looking to do, and what you're expecting out of a tractor. sounds like you're thinking in the 20 - 25 hp range. Is that right? The NH TC24 or JD 2210 would be good candidates if that's what you're looking for. But don't ignore the Centuries, Bransons, and Kiotis. The Kioti CK20 has been getting a lot of good reviews since it hit the market.

You'll find as you proceed with your search, you'll probably feel even more confused than you are right now. Not to worry! It's normal! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Say, what part of northern Nevada are you in? We're going to be coming out to Fallon next week to visit my son, Daughter-in-law, and our first grandchild. He's in the Navy at the Naval Air station there.

Good luck with your search. Enjoy the trip. It's a WHOLE lot of fun! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here's a link to a thread that just got started in the Operating forum about the same thing that you're asking about. BX23

The Kubota BX23 is a good tractor, however I have had good success with my PT2445 from Power Trac. They also make two smaller units more the size of the bx23. The 2430 is 30 hp diesel and the PT2425 is 25hp gas. If you are not going to use the BH on the bx23 then look at the PT425 & PT1430 (I also use both these models). All PT's are 4WD, articulated(which does not tear up finished turf) and with over 40 attachments including backhoes and mini-hoes. The link is www.power-trac.com.
Good luck finding your new toy.
Enjoy your retirement!
