I sure hope my IVECO engine wasnt made in China, but if so, I still have the 5 year LS warranty.

I think most of the products sold by many big companies with excellent quality standards (Apple, Sony, etc...) are now made completely in China out of parts made in China, but they are manufactured to specific specs provided by those companies. I'd guess a lot of tractor engines for a lot of the various brands now come out of China or India. Some premium brand tractor proponents might even be surprised to find out where their engines (or parts for them) actually come from. Don't know -- just guessing.

Agree. China has rules (unfair, but hey?) if you're gonna sell here, you have to build here, which keeps all the jobs in China and provides an enormous export of product, and some government fingers in the capitalist pie. Everyone has an eye on China both for sales and for low manufacturing costs, and both mean only one thing: Made in China.

India is also "hot to trot" as a destination for many manufacturers. LS buys China made engines for the same reason Fiat has that plant there in the first place. Keep costs down.

If Japan and the US struggle, one questions how long can Korea compete? Surely, their wages and taxes exceed those of China and India. So the world turns slowly on its axis.

Just because they opened a factory in China doesn't mean it's a Chinese engine. It's a Italian engine and a very good one indeed, made in a new factory designed by the Italians in China. Your engine may not have even been made there. Let's face it the Chinese want these plants because they can't make anything with out someone from the west showing them how too. Italians like it for the cheap labor. But to say it's a Chinese engine couldn't be further from the truth. It's like saying your new Camaro is a Canadian car.

Gary,

Take a look at the Engine Serial number plate on the LH Side of the engine block, you should be relieved to see that is says "Engine is Made in Italy".

I am a far piece from my tractor at the moment, but I will try to remember to look when I get home. I am not worried about it, as stated in all the post, where it happens to be built is not the issue. The design is good and the engines have a good reputation for long lasting. Heck I have chinese copy of a Japanese telephone (nokia)that I have been using for over a year and not had one problem. The only way to tell it isnt genuine is that Nokia doesnt make the model number. It came with a spare battery which I havent used yet so maybe you get more from Chinese copies than the original and for sure their quality is getting better. I dislike the way that they steal patents openly and them market them openly in countries outside the USA. USA enforces the patent laws on imports so importers take a big risk buying copycat versions as they can be confiscated. Getting off the subject a lot.
I am just afraid that the national pastime of bargain hunting is driving all industry out of the USA and if times came to pass where we were shut out from importing from China, Japan, India and Korea, we would be in a world of hurt. Not much full manufacturing going on in USA now, maybe a little bit of final assembly so the sneaky brands can say made in the USA. Reminds me of a tale 30 years ago where the Chinese supposedly named a city Usa and were packaging cheap goods with the Made in USA on it but just an oversight that they capitalized all the letters forgot to include China at the end.

Case IH is LS and Ford New Holland was bought out by Fiat. So the decision is a no brainer. Japan or S Korea. I went to school with S Koreans and they studied all night and got TOP marks. Their Tractor plants are extremely clean and they Tech sauve. My U5030 is very tough and well built.

I am glad this thread got lifted back as when reading it, I found I needed to respond to a3/3/2011 post when I was at that time in Nigeria. Hey, better late than never. I finally got around to checking my LS engine. It is in fact made in Italy and also states on the engine tag to use ONLY low sulfur and Ultra Low Sulphur fuels which I would say that means folks putting in those high dollar additives are wasting their money. If the engines are designed to run ULSD then it shouldnt need additives. Perhaps a biocide could be used for long term storage but I havent found any of those. Everything I see in Powerserve, PowerKleen etc is cetane booster or injector cleaner etc. No mention of biocide treatment. So far I have not had a problem with bacteria contamination perhaps due to no water since my tank is always indoors.
