Dougster, I never said Kubota is the answer for everyone....compare price, features, quality, resale, etc and decide for yourself. We don't have any yuppy tractor places down here like up in Yankee land, but if I look around at construction sites, large farming and ranching operations, contract hay baling, contract road and pipeline mowing, etc. - I don't recall ever seeing any third world produced tractors.

I must be lucky to live in an actual agricultural area since my best local Deere and Kubota dealers are more than happy to wait on and sell to farmers with various kinds of animal droppings on their jeans. They also work with me without talking down to me (as a non-farmer) or inflating the prices for me.

As for brands... oh, not this discussion again!!! Any of the big 4 will serve very well. The next 5-10 will probably serve you well also, but with a bit more unpredictability and fewer dealers if something goes bad. For long term ownership I think parts may be the biggest issue; however, I have heard more parts horror stories about Kubota than any other brand, FWIW.

Didn't take nuthin'! :) The big joke around here is that the Kubota dealers all know me and that I'd never be able to afford a Kubota... so why let me take up a valuable parking space and breathing air inside their fancy Yuppie Palaces!

In short, I need to disguise myself as a rich person willing to trade actual tractor capability for the color orange, a status symbol and a promise of higher resale value. Once I get past the guard and the sales staff, I am free and clear to get what I came for... usually a little grease, oil or more of them dang lynch pins I keep losing! :D

Dougster

Pins, donuts and coffee... the converstation is usually one-sided and goes like
"We really wish you trade up or buy new and stop eating our donuts!"

And to think I would give them MY business (one day), such brashness.

With all due respect... please re-read your post. When I read it, that was the impression I got. Kubota or nothing. But I'll accept your clarification that a little comparison shopping is a good thing. :)

But we still gotta work on getting you off this "third world tractors" kick. Makes it sounds like you're calling a Mahindra a Jinma. Gotta get you off the farm more often and show you that there is a clear difference! :)

I see that your Yuppie Palace has the donut thing too. :) I have to work really fast to grab them suckers and head for the back door at light speed. :D It actually helps that they make me park my econobox out in the road so that the Lexus and Infiniti SUVs can park real close to the sales entrance without my car taking up their space! Makes it harder for the guard to find and catch me. :D

That's your opinion and most other people have an opinion that differs than yours. This is a fact because of the percentage of people who buy Kubota, for example, as compared to the people who buy your brand of tractor. If any brand were far superior to Kubota, JD or CNH, had their level of customer support, and cost thousands less, that brand would be the most common and best selling brand in the country. If you want, you can say that perception is reality, and I'd agree with you. Saying that would say that it's only people's perception that other brands are superior to yours in build quality, reliability, and customer support; not reality. Whether that is true or not, I cannot answer. However, if the reality ends up not meeting the perception, things will change on their own over time.

Dargo, I agree with you, sort of. What I stated is fact. Just because the big 3 sell more doen't mean that there product is superior. More like better advertising. I am not saying that the other guys product is inferior, but it is not superior. Just because they sell more doesn't mean that they are better. The only thing that I know for sure is that the big 3 do have better resale value. If resale is one of your concerns, then that could be a deciding factor. Other than that, I still want to see that tractor that is a hands down better machine, because I couldn't find it and I looked.

Dargo, you have a Kubota and a Deere. Looked at Mahindra, but didn'y buy because of local conditions and I understand that. If the conditions would have been right, would you have bought Mahindra over the Kubota or Deere? I know that their dealer network is lacking, but do you feel that the tractors are about equal?

Just wondering, would be nice to know your thoughts since you own both Deere & Kubota.

Honestly, it would be a tough decision. Really. The guy I know who had the Mahindra dealership was waiting on a 7010 cab (I think that was the model, forgive me if my memory fails me) to come in. That was the tractor I was interested in. What I drove was 3 or 4 other models and was honestly darn impressed with them.

The JD and Kubota tractors are, um, more polished and have a smoother feel, but that doesn't say the Mahindra tractors felt bad. I guess I'd put it this way; if I didn't end up with what I now have, I'd likely have the Mahindra 7010 cab. If that 7010 cab would have come in and I'd had a chance to actually drive that particular tractor, things could of even been different then. There was obviously going to be a price difference with the Mahindra and it was right at the point that I would have been on the fence. Make any sense?

Also, I think you likely noticed that I hedged my earlier statements when I said "If you want, you can say that perception is reality, and I'd agree with you." By that I mean that it could only be people's perception that the big three tractors are superior, and not necessarily reality. I believe it would be like trying to squish a drop of mercury under your thumb, getting an accurate quantitative measurement of which tractor is actually superior, because each time you think you have it pinned down, it squirts out another side. How would you precisely define superior? And, yes, I know that playing with mercury is not advised. :)

How long ago was it when you looked at Mahindra? Maybe you could sell the 'bota (you know they supposedly keep their resale value), and go get the Mahindra (if they finally got it in with the cab), then take the extra money and buy your tie-down straps.:D

I believe they all had 72" buckets, but I'm not 100% sure.

Yes, I remember seeing the lever on the Kioti and thought that would be handy.

The 17gpm pump output is out of the published specs from Mahindra. The steering pump is 5.2gpm. I read a debate about this over in the Mahindra forum. It seems some didn't believe it was that much, mainly due to the slower loader speed. I think they finally decided it was indeed close to that, but I'm not sure.

The Kioti should have a 84" bucket.

I'll bet the 17gpm pump on the Mahindra is with the steering included.

I may have missed it, but why aren't you looking at JD, NH, and Massey?
