Comparing snowblowers?

Man that Simplicity must be powerful! Look at the flames shooting from the exhaust in the second to last picture!:laughing:

I tuned up a Simplicity garden tractor for a neighbor a couple of years ago and I could see it was quality machine. I don't think they are cheap though but what good machine is!

Cool.!!

I think it's neat how those shooting flames look like a work light. ;)

Wow, that's really cool.!!

Not sure if this is the right forum, but need to buy new 8-10 HP snowblower. Would like to have the remote chute rotation & spout controls, hand warmers, maybe a clear snow shield.

Looking at Deere, Cub cadet, etc.

Any real world experience with a brand you like?

Sears currently has a 20% off sale on their snow blowers. They have one for $979.99 that looks like one mean machine! "Craftsman Professional 357cc 30'' path Two-stage Snowblower"

The only thing that worries me about the Craftsman blowers is that it looks like they might have chinese engines on them.

I'd like a US, Japan, euro made brand of engine.

Looks like they make a nice line of snowblowers, though.

Craftsman used to be a decent blower, i think MTD had the contract for a lot of years. Cant say about now.

Yes the engines are china. The old Tecomseh Sno-King was a good engine. Tecomeah fell into hard times and was bought out by a equity company, Now the engines are clones and come from overseas. and AFAIK tecomseh is no more and what ever parts are left are drying up fast.

I think besides honda all thats left making winter engines is briggs. And the engines birggs sells for winter are honda clones made in china. I dont think any winter engines are made in NA. Honda winter engines and blowers come direct from Japan.

don't be silly -- there are no flames, just heat. the turbocharger housing glows cherry red any time the 650bhp engine is run up over 10,000 RPM. it's no big deal, you can see it all of the time on F1 and Indy car engines.

we did it to ourselves. a diminished individual work ethic, wasteful government policies and overspending, continued decline in stressing the importance of high level education, health care costs and the impact of adults supporting their elderly parents, and so on.

oh, and i almost forgot Lady Gaga.

now let's get back to discussing snowblowers, it's less distressing...

Unfortunately you can thank the Walmart and the race to the bottom mentality it creates.

The never ending "demand" for lower priced and quality goods (snowblowers) made companies like MTD find cheaper engines in china. this killed tecomseh.

MTD had a plant in kitchener making mowers in the winter and blowers in the summer that is no more after 40 years.

So can I get any brand of snowblower with a US made engine on it? How about Deere?

dont know, i cant find where the briggs snow max (on the larger deeres) are made. Im not sure if deere builds their blowers in-house or outsources them. If it has a intek engine i think it is us made. Im pretty sure the inteks are still made down there. Its only been the last few years that MTD has begun sourcing those engines (and likely many/most of the parts) overseas

edit: it appears the snow MAX is us made. THe regular snow series is china

i will look on my Simplicity this evening for the country of origin on the engine. nevertheless, i would not get too hung up on this. capitalism works if you let it. "buying American" is not a method which brings about the essence of capitalism. but, "buying quality" does.

I think they sell them at lowes. I just saw a Simplicity for $899. Looked like a 28" clearing path, but HP wasn't specified.

That may not be a big enough snowblower to qualify for the B&S Snowseries engines though.
