Messicks does duch a good job and their filters are NH. I am very frugal, but saving 10% is not worth it when it comes to a very "expensive" machine. I now buy from Messicks. I know the specs are spot on, the filters fit and most importantly, I never have to worry if the filter is the right filter. Peace of mind is worth the extra 10%.

I agree.. a 10% savins is paltry. Heck.. a 50% savings can be paltry.. if the filter is cheap.

Pretty much.. if I am buying a filter.. i get it oem.. unless it is something awfull.. like 50-60$ -difference- in price. I have one big hyd filter onmy NH.. it's spendy.. but.. I found.. it also doesn't cross anywhere either!

Besides... when i do need dealer help or service.. I think it does count that they see NH filters on my tractor, and know that I stop buy monthly to buy a belt or a fuel line.. etc.

I can deffinately say that I have gotten 'free' tech support from the parts and service dept. while I was broke down in the field. I bought my tractor (s) from that dealer.. I buy most of my parts and filters .. and other engine addatives from there.. and they know that. I also have soem dealer service done there from time to time. I think that helps out when you are on the phone and broke down... IE... them telling you how to fix it.. vs scheduling a farm call or a pickup for them to fix it$$$$.

I hear you! Messicks has been great! They help me with emailed questions that no one can seem to answer locally. Good prices, good advice and friendly. Keeps me going back to Messicks. I just learned they sell Bush Hog parts. Next stop Messicks for Bush hog parts.

Yep.. sometimes you are not saving a buck.. when you save a buck. Nothing like getting a free answer to a 5$ problem from a dealer that knows you support him, vs him having to scalp you for a 75$ farm call just to keep his dorrs open cause you won't buy 100$ worth of maintenance producs from him yearly to keep your 15,000-30,000$ tractor investment running. ( because you want to save 2$ on a non oem oil filter.. )

Well, in between storms I went to the dealer, got the Case filters -- HST, Hydo, oil, and fuel, plus a gallon of HyTran Ultra for about $85. I now have the 50 hour service done and am counting toward 100.

The DX sales literature makes a big deal about the frequently serviced items all being on the same side of the tractor -- the right. This is nice, but I have to wonder why they didn't put all these items on the left since the quick connects and lines for the loader are also on the right, making things a little close when it comes to the engine oil filter and dipstick. While I'm whining about design forethought, who figured the toolbox mount location? Checking the hydraulic fluid level and topping off the HyTran Ultra would be a lot easier if things were placed differently. Maybe the seat and toolbox are different in other markets, but the way it's set up for North America is kind of awkward.

Of course, it's not as bad as the front distributor arrangement on the old 8Ns, either.

I actually don't mind those front distribs.. I don't know of many other engines where you can unbolt the distrib.. throw points in and static time it on your desk, and then slap it back on and KNOW that you didn't put it in wrong as it can only bolt in one way due tot he offset cam tang drive setup.

As for tool box.. I hated it on my 1920.. behind the seat.. thin little thing. now on my 7610s.. it's great.. hangs ont he side of the bellhousing, and detaches!!

They all have their design flaws don't they? Some are hard to imagine what they were thinking about.
Although they have had the service items on the same side of the engine for a long time, Deere really screwed the pooch with the fuel fill on my new open station 3720. It is really awkward. Apparantly nobody at Deere tried to poor a full Blitz can into one... The cab versions have it on the fender like a TC.
Filling the transmission on compacts is really a pain too.
The down side of owning a compact I guess... My 2355 is SO much easier to work on.

I'm not too fond of the fuel fill on my ford 5000 / NH 7610s. You really need a step ladder to add the fuel, as the op platform is not clode enough to stand and ballance on.. and the front tire is too far away. Course.. i find it better than the newer models with the plastic tanks under the running boards.. I'd have a hole poked in those in 5 minutes..

NAPA Gold filters are fine, Napa Silver filters are no better than your screen door for filtering. Obviously OEM is good too. High quality aftermarket vs. OEM is an age old argument that just doesn't seem to have a right or wrong answer. It's pretty much personal preference. I'm an OEM person myself.
