Once again, Thank You All for some great information. I am starting to understand this a little better, but this is one of those things that the more you learn, the more you find out you have to learn. I do, however, have to take exception with the proposal of adding "cheap" beer to my high quality compost. I do have very high quality standards that must be upheld. I have been reading some posts over on the gardenweb forum about composting. There are some interesting articles regarding "liquid" additives. So, I would much prefer to introduce ... perhaps a nice, handcrafted Northwest microbrew to my fine compost. And, as I learned over at the Gardenweb, anything we can do to start the decomposition process in advance is worthy of our efforts. So I will gladly start that process, personally. I'll just have to make sure my neighbors are looking the other way when I add it to the pile.
