Compression release on tractor

So this is an aid to help with cranking, do they use that instead of glow plugs in these chunese tractors? i beleive my tractor has the plugs as my switch has a place for it.

Mine has both.

Mine has no Glow Plugs. Without the compression release, it takes over 1000 amp of battery to spin engine fast enough to start w/o starting fluid. Engine turns over slow with 750amp battery. Originally, tractor had 2 - 6 volt batteries in series to give amperage.

Yes, lever from operator seat works fine. I use to stick my hand at back off engine and pull linkage while using a screwdriver to jump solonoid before I fixed starting circuit. I am in no hurry and will get to it in a month or so after I get some more chores done. Sure would like to move to the islands Rich. Is it paradise there?

Well, I've never needed starting fluid. (grin) Of course, I wouldn't use that stuff in a diesel no matter what. Way to easy to trash an engine that way.

DO NOT use ether if you have glow plugs.
DON'T use gasoline fumes either.

You may have more than one problem. The SL3105 is a direct injection engine, and should start much easier than that - with or without compression release. I'd be curious to learn whether the compression release stopped working after someone performed a valve lash adjustment. Did you buy this tractor new? or used?

Ok, for those of you who don't remember me, here is the start.

If I do not use starting fluid, I need my car battery connected to tractor with car engine running to crank this thing off. Really need to spin up starter. And at that, it takes 6-8 seconds of constant cranking to fire it off. It seems like when I pull the fuel shut down lever, it removes all the fuel from pump and system and it takes 6 seconds of cranking for it to build back up before it will even attempt to try to run.

How long should it take to crank one of these?

About 2 - 4 complete revolutions max for the DI engines. It's very unlikely that the fuel is siphoning back to the tank because the fuel level is always above the injection pump (flooded suction).
Curious if you are getting white or black smoke whisps from the exhaust during startup (sans starting fluid)?
Your injector timing could be a little retarded. Engine could also be low on compression.

How long should it take to crank one of these?

Depends on the temperature, but this time of year it should be running within 2 seconds. Again, new or used? And to your knowledge, has the valve cover ever been off for any reason?

Mine has both Compression Release and Glow Plugs. It cranks right over after 20 seconds of glow plugs when its below 40. Above that I use nothing, just start it as if it were my car, truck, boat, ect.
