Computer buying help please

Well folks, I bought it. Have yet to hook it up but am going to take my time in reading about it and preparing my old one for transfer of some files and such to the new one. I think I'm going to love it. Thanks for the input you all gave. I've attached some photos.

Now you will need an 800.00 monitor to go with it, 19", with all the bells and whistles.

Since I am not much into the video thing, I wish they made the config with xp pro and a pentium processor for that price.

I have an LCD monitor right now but I'm researching the newer monitors. Any suggestions?

As for the config., they have one similar to mine with the pentium D processor that costs a couple hundred more.

The specs and price look good. I once bought an HP system, and eventually discovered that many things were "built in" to the motherboard such as video, audio, modem, etc. Once I had problems with a subsystem the system was trash. I hope that they're doing things differently now. Since that purchase I've bought my own components and assembled, but really can't say I've saved over your prices...

That is what my son was saying to me when I was trying to decide.

"Try to build one for the amount their asking for this one. Remember to take into account the work involved...., ain't gonna happen Dad!"

The one I'm replacing is also an HP. I hope to have good luck with this one.

Right about all acounts.

You're not going to build one any cheaper; especially if you add the value of the software.

I don't particularly like proprietarty MOBOs especially if there's a bunch of on-board components that generally aren't on-board. Didn't look like HP was too bad about that on the BILs machine; even if so, I just don't imagine it giving you trouble.

On the other hand, I'm always looking for some [or several] quirk (for instance I'm still stuck on SCSI....yeah, I know about the SATA Raptors, but old dogs /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif besides just wait for SAS!), so I still build mine even if it doesn't save $$$.

Thanks Spiffy. I think I made the right choice.
Now how about some thoughts on some nice speakers. I can go up to 5.1 surround so any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
