There are some tweaks that can be done to Windows 8 that will change the look and feel of Windows to what you are accustomed to. Google search "how to make windows 8 look like windows 7"

Just go to the desktop on Windows 8 and you'll feel more at home. I bought a Windows 8 machine to replace my current machine. I hooked it up and spend most of the day trying to get used to it. I finally disconnected it and upgraded the memory in my current machine so it was faster. I'll eventually go back to the Windows 8 machine, but I felt pretty helpless with it when it first opened. Going to the desktop gave me much more comfort.

Unfortunately, Microsoft had this culture of "if it ain't broke, then break it!" They have done it on just about all of their programs over the years.

I guess they think that new and exciting will bring on sales. I like old and reliable!

XD. Same here. I have a laptop that I got for my birthday that has windows 7 on it. When we picked it out. They wanted to know if I would like to upgrade the operating system to windows 8. I declined the offer even though they were gonna upgrade it for no extra charge. lol

Windows 8 just isn't right for me at the moment. Heck I'm still using windows xp on an old emachines desktop. Have no reason to give up windows xp on my desktop for windows 7 and have no reason to give up windows 7 on my laptop for windows 8.

By the way. I'm still getting used to windows 7. lol

Been using Win 8 for several months now. I really like it. Much faster and better RAM and hard drive features. But I go directly to the desktop and work from there. Create your shortcut icons on the desktop for Internet Explorer, Chrome, Word, Excel, File Explorer, Solitaire, etc. and just work from there. A bit of a learning curve, but it is really nice. If you are stuck on the goofy "Start" screen, right click in a blank area and click on "show all apps" at the bottom of the screen. You can copy some of the icons from there to your desktop to make things easier using "show file location" and then create the shortcut on your desktop. There are also several third party software packages to add the old start menu to the desktop if you need it. Install any new software from the desktop and most will add or ask you if you want to add icons to the desktop also.
