Been using Win 8 for several months now. I really like it. Much faster and better RAM and hard drive features. But I go directly to the desktop and work from there. Create your shortcut icons on the desktop for Internet Explorer, Chrome, Word, Excel, File Explorer, Solitaire, etc. and just work from there. A bit of a learning curve, but it is really nice. If you are stuck on the goofy "Start" screen, right click in a blank area and click on "show all apps" at the bottom of the screen. You can copy some of the icons from there to your desktop to make things easier using "show file location" and then create the shortcut on your desktop. There are also several third party software packages to add the old start menu to the desktop if you need it. Install any new software from the desktop and most will add or ask you if you want to add icons to the desktop also.
