My computer is shading the whole screen pink, sometimes it flashes a shade of pink for a fraction of a second, and other times it turns pink, and the only way to revert it by shutting it off. it was purchased just over a year ago so i would assume out of warranty... it is doing this as i am typing this, anyone have any ideas what to do to solve it?w

I had something similar happen to me a few years ago on my (then) 10 year old computer. Instead of pink my monitor was displaying everything in green or blue tones. My video card either overheated or was just too old. Replacing it solved the problem.

You know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month? Just kidding. Take a looking at the video / graphics card. You might have a big problem if your computer is a laptop with integrated controllers, etc.

My monitor did that shortly before it died. I think your monitor is telling you it's time to replace.

If its a desktop, make sure the monitor cable is securely fastened at both ends. A half connected monitor cable will do what you describe.

What brand/type of computer. Laptops can do this if the display cable gets pinched or pulled loose. Otherwise, could be video card or screen.

It is a Lenovo Laptop, purchased with windows 8 software, however im now running windows 10. Is there much i can do to look at the display cable myself? Is it possible to buy a external graphics card and tell the computer to not use the built in one? Thanks for your help everyone.

The laptop should have an external VGA port...you can connect it to a stand alone monitor or to most flat panel TV sets...this will tell you if it's the display or the video adapter...be sure to change the input on the TV interface...

did you just upgrade to windows 10 and start having problems?

agreeing with others see if you can get a flat screen or like and plug into laptop.

a reminder if things are fairly ugly... black friday is getting near. and better time to shop for electronic stuff. if things will hold out for that long.

Lenovo typically has their stuff designed to fail exactly five minutes after the warranty expires!

Lol, i imagine it only had a one year warranty. I should also say i have been running win 10 since it came out.

If the problem is affected by rotating the screen, then it would be the display cable. Could also try pinching the screen frame around the edges and see if that has an effect. That is normally where the cable attaches, and sometimes the connector loosens up.

They use a ribbon type cable for laptop screens -- connects inside the base, then wraps around the hinge (sometimes 2 wraps) and then runs up into the screen. The cable can get pinched, it can break, etc...

If the second display turns pink when you hook it up via HDMI then you know it is not the laptop display. Unfortunately most laptops do not have a discreet video card than can be replaced :(

As someone mentioned, if its a laptop, with the laptop on and a picture on the display, hold the base down and open and almost close the screen fully open and fully closed several times. If it flickers between normal and pink while you are opening and closing it, there's a good chance its a ribbon cable failing.

Another good option is to get the specific make and model of the machine and search Youtube for "replace monitor lenova laptop xxxxxxx" where xxxxxxx is the model of the laptop. There's a good chance someone has posted a video of how to replace that monitor. Its kinda amazing how many techno-geeks video these repairs and are kind enough to share them.

Don't assume it is out of warranty. My kid's computer is having problems, most likely because of the way the laptop has been bounced around, but it is still under warranty. It is a Lenovo and we got a three year warranty at no extra cost when we bought it. Our Lenovo's at work and home last quite a bit of time, with one exception. Anywho, I would make sure you are actually out of warranty.

Later,
Dan

Have the same issue, but darker colored than pink. I hooked the HDMI to the TV and it was perfect on the TV. I took it apart a little and the ribbon is fine. I need new display.
