Concealed Carry and Consequences

Well, guess it depends on where you live,I happen to live in southern w.va. about 2 hours from va. tech.,,there is no need to carry a gun with you around here,,period,,I have hunted things all my life,,when you are hunting something, there is of course a need to be able to kill it when you can,,but other than that, the only need would be self protection,,and around here it just ain't nessacary,,been some places it was,but not here, and blacksburg is not really one of them either, its just you got alot of different strange people in one spot,[like any big university],,maybe there,,but outside,no,,no need.
Been around guns all my life, was in the 82nd airbourne,,kill deer every year,,but, don't believe in carrying a gun when I go buy snuff,,wouldn't live in a place where you had to and I ain't moving,,so...
Guns are not toys, they don't make you a man,,,people say they carry guns everywhere,,whens the last time a 50 year old man really needed a gun in this country to save his life?,,yeah, there are maybe a couple out of 20 million,,I got guns, this would be the wrong place to rob at night,I would shoot to kill and probably enjoy it,,thats why I ain't carrying one out with me,,but,,some places, will admitt,,you probably need to,,just wouldn't live there is all,,move,,,,thingy

Nah,bet most wouldn't,bet they would wish somebody around was armed, though.
What are you saying, every one should carry a gun at all times everywhere? If they did, they would be more people shot than are shot now, most of it would be self inflicted. Can you imagine in a big place like va. tech if all the students were armed all the time, what a mess.
What its come to it looks like is every institution, big or small needs to have armed people in them, the right people, old enough to know something,,familer with guns,,and of course paid for there services,,this could be armed guards in every building or setting or it could be teachers or doctors or nurses, but I wouldn't send a kid of mine to a school if all the students were armed,,I know what 18-19 year olds do,,can still remember,[barely],,,
Another thing we could do to help a little is quit letting aliens in this country,,we got enough,,we are full,,,we got enough crazy people that are born here without letting crazy people in who are born somewheres else.thingy

It would suit me fine if all permittable people were armed. it would give the criminals considerable pause to 'know' that most of their victoms would be armed.

I highly doubt that... I don't hear of a rash of self inflicted gunshot wounds from CCW holders as it is.

Why would it be a mess? I've been to gun and other sport shooting events that had hundreds and thousands of people milling around..

How many accidental shootings do you hear about at gun shows???

If you take a responsible person, give him a permit, and arm him.. he does not automatically become an umresponsible person. Data backs this up. CCW holders are among the most law abiding citizens when you look at crime statistics.

Molly Ivans, rest her soul, got it right... we need an UNCONCEALED carry law. Then, properly licenced and trained individuals would be carrying weapons selected for effectiveness rather than concealment. The terror we face in the USA now is the unstable individual... in Luby's, at the UT tower, at Virginia, Columbine, etc... and only an armed and capable populace can reduce the impact of thes events... notice I didn't say prevent, because these can't be prevented, only slowed down, hopefully, before the shooter gets near the end of his (so far it's all men) ammunition and takes their own life. The police, even the best, can't be everywhere all the time and these events blow up so fast that only armed individuals already at the location can make a difference. Police can (mostly) only respond and identify the slain.

First and foremost, I am a gun owner, gun carrier. After 9 months here in Iraq it will seem odd to go home and not have a pistol on my hip everywhere I go, even to church. I believe that every law abiding citizen has the right to own and carry a gun. However, I do not believe the problems that we are seeing with events such as Columbine, Va Tech, Luby's, etc can be solved with more guns or less guns. It is something in our culture. I'm not sure I can explain exactly what either. There have always been bullies and there always will be. How many school shootings were there in the 40's, 50's, or 60's? The gun laws were much less restrictive then. More kid's owned their own guns back then, granted they might have been a .22 rifle for squirrel hunting or a shot gun for bird hunting, but the guns were more easily accessible. These kids that do this have no soul. They are evil. Bullying is not an excuse, the only excuse is evil. I was the 90 pound weakling when I was in school. If I shot up the school every time I was insulted or shoved into a locker there wouldn't have been any students left. I don't think these kids can see past today. What are the consequences of your actions tomorrow? How much better will your life be a year from now, a month from now, or even tomorrow? I guess so many of them think of school or their current situation as permanent and this is the only way out.

"we need an UNCONCEALED carry law. Then, properly licenced and trained individuals would be carrying weapons selected for effectiveness rather than concealment"

We've already got that...they're called law enforcement officers.

The problem is they aren't every place all the time. The country couldn't afford enough...anyway, I wouldn't want that many cops (can you say "Seig Heil"?).

Robert Heinlein wrote in one of his novels "An Armed Society is a Polite Society". How true...

I've carried a pistol for a lot of years...and I strongly promote everyone willing to carry a handgun for protection.

But carrying a pistol isn't going to solve the violence problems this country faces. What carrying a pistol will do is save the individual from an immediate threat.

As far as Thingy's comments...I also doubt most folks would carry, but even if everyone did, I don't foresee a rash of unintended shootings. That hasn't happened in any of the states that issue CCW permits.

Well to each his own,,,just would not send my daughter to a collage where every one[who wanted to be],could be armed anytime they wanted,in class in dorm in parking lot, would send my daughter to a school where certain trained adult individuals were armed in order to protect her in case another forgein born insane idiot,or home grown one for that matter, decided to go to **** that day.
My thinking has always been for myself anyways,,I don't need to carry one,,but if you try and kill me or something, you had better finish it cause I know where some are, than the next time it'll be my turn,,,,can't imagine going about my daily life carrying a pistol on me,,,,whats the old saying,,I ain't carried a knife since I got big enough to kill a man with my hands??
Course, some of you don't live in a nice safe quite place like I do,guess if I had to live in most of FL. or around any big city I might think differently,,but I don't and I ain't.

I'll carry my gun anytime I want to to and don't need no permit to do it either,,its just don't think the schools need to be filled with gun packing students,,they need to be protected while they learn though,,,thingy

North Carolina has an "open carry" law, it is LEGAL for you to carry a sidearm as long as it is in plain sight. So, if you didn't have a CC permit, you could strap one (gun) on your side and go about your business.

Congratulations.. you just described concealed carry law.

Why do you think there is the need for handgun training / safety course to be taken in order to get the license.

Again.. If you take a responsible person, and license them to carry a gun legally, they do not automatically become irresponsible citizens. Again.. statistics back this up.. legal ccw holders are among the most law abiding sector of society. Your daughter may well be better protected in a classroom full of legal and armed ccw holders to protect her.. vs the single armed school resource officer aimlessly walking around the campus.
