Concealed Carry Regrets?

Knowing it is against the law in certain places and still carrying in those places makes one a criminal. No better than any other crime. Can't just choose the laws that suit my temperament at the time.

In MO the law is not that you cannot carry concealed into a place of business that has signs posted. The law is that they have the right to ask you to leave and/or put your gun in your vehicle. If they ask, you must comply. If you don't, you can be subject to fines and eventually having your license suspended for a period of time. Perfectly legal to carry *concealed* in those places.

The same does NOT go for courthouses, police stations, etc.

As in MO and KS (from previous posts), in NV a business can post a "no firearms allowed" sign. And the only weight it carries is that the business can ask you to leave if they discover you are carrying. If you comply with their request, no crime has been commited. If you don't, then the crime is simple trespass.

When I was in the police academy (1971, Oakland, CA) an instructor told the class that they needed to make the overlying decision to use deadly force right then, as there would most often not be time to make that decision on the street. Not a soul got up and left.

It's the old wolf, sheep, sheepdog thing . . . I would not find fault with those who refuse to protect themselves. It's their choice. I chose to make it my work to provide what protection I could, for them. Unfortunately, we all know that police most often come to your aid when the crime has been done, sometimes they get lucky and stop a crime from happening, but really that's the exception.

Ben Carson made a statement (and got hammered for it by the liberal press) that people should consider making a decision early on to not just cower and wait to be killed by the bad guys. But rather to rush them. When you think about it, in those situations that warrant it, that makes a lot of sense, though it is not a "sheep" normal reaction. In the flight or fight response, I guess mostly the flight part is imprinted, even though often using whatever is at hand to fight would result in less casualties.

I carry most all the time, excepting when I have to go to stupid states like CA. We truly need a reciprocity law, but I guess there's no hope of that with the current POTUS. California, and other "difficult" states, have no authority to abridge our Constitutional rights.

My wife and I have had this conversation several times. She says she doesn't
think she can pull the trigger. I say then don't carry. All you are gonna do is "muddy" the waters in a critical situation.

I don't get that. What about the deterrent effect? There must have been thousands of perps scared off by a gun
for every actual shooting.

In my county, it is difficult and expensive to get a CCW. So I think it is a good thing that some are willing to go thru
the effort and carry where ever they legally can.

Next time you have on a long shirt and/or jacket, stand in front of the mirror:

• Reach up like you were taking something off the top shelf in a store... What do you see in the mirror?
• Pretend you dropped something on the floor. Bend over and pick it up. What do you see in the mirror?
• Pretend you dropped something on the floor. Squat and lean over to pick it up. What do you see in the mirror?
• Pretend you are having to bend over and pick up something on the bottom of the shopping cart. What do you see in the mirror?

What did it look like if someone was behind you?

Even if the shirt or jacket still covers the weapon, said weapon can print through if one is looking and knows what to look for. Concealed means concealed, but concealed does not mean something concealed, is always undetectable.

I understand your points but.........nobody knows I carry unless I want them to know. I know a guy who likes people to know......makes him feel like a tough guy........guys like him shouldn't carry........it's a macho thing in his case.

In Tn. the signs carry the full force of the law which is a misdemeanor if you are caught carrying with a proper sign posted, not sure if you are subject to lose your HCP.If there is no sign you can still be asked to leave. If you do not leave you can be charged with criminal trespass.

Strap a machete on your leg........they won't be focused on the gun. Kidding of course.

Hope those businesses also have a sign that says.....no criminals allowed because we are unarmed. More important......hope the criminals read the sign and abide by the sign.

Here there is no law that will get you arrested for caring in a business with signs posted No Guns Allowed.. The business owner must ask you to leave in the presents of LEO..If you refuse to leave the property in the presents of LEO,,You can be arrested for trespass only..

Businesses,etc, can also ask you to leave their property for any reason,not just having a gun.. If you refuse to leave for any reason, you can be arrested for trespass

I regret that I have to carry a weapon because of the line of work my wife's in.
