Concealed Weapons Good Or Bad?

Recently passed here in Ohio was a law permitting concealed weapons to be legally carried. As I understand a weapons training will be a must and there will be background checks made. The idea behind all this is a criminal will be less likely to commit a crime on another individual if he/she doesn't know if the person that they intend to rob/harm is packing heat.

I don't know if its a good or bad idea but a lot of other states have been allowing their citizens to pack heat for some years. What are your thoughts, will you be strapping on a Glock to jump on the tractor before you plow the snow from the drive? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I own a few handguns for personal protection but I don't know if I would ever consider carrying one. And I might be a bit uneasy sitting in a bar if the guy next to me slapping down beers was carrying. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I doubt it will have any affect on criminals. Just my opinion... no science to back it up. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I am not sure why I feel this way, but I would prefer that anyone who wants to be permitted to carry a pistol on his hip...out for everyone to see...whenever he wants. I suppose I would be in favor of some required education for those who wished to do so...

I am not sure why a weapon needs to be concealed, unless by an undercover cop or someone like that.

Not a gun owner here...but the criminals all have their guns anyway...so why not the honest guy if he wishes to carry one? But on the outside for all to see...

Just but my oppinion.......But if a person really needed to use a weapon for protection would the use be correct. People tend to react to quickly and then things get real ugly. I am againts the private person carring a concealed weapon.
Just my oppinion so everyone else here in TBN land can have theirs....it does not make my oppinion wrong!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

PineRidge,

Florida was on of the first states thta passed a CCW law a good
decade ago. The anti gun people said that it would turn our
streets into battle grounds and there would be dead people all
over the place.

They somehow missed the fact that this was already happening
due to the huge drug smuggling that was going on in South
Florida. There already where major gun battles going on
between drug gangs on the streets and in the malls....

John Lott has published a few books/papers on CCW and
defense use of firearms. Basically the states with CCW laws
usually have less violent crime than non CCW states. Its not
a huge decrese as I remember it but it is less. Lott does have
a new book out about the antil gun bias in the media. Tain't
read it just some excerpts.

In Florida the violent crime rate did go down after the CCW
law was passed. I think the CCW law had an effect on the
decline but it was not the only reason for the decline.. There
have been very few criminal uses of a firearm by a CCW
permit holder in FL while carrying under the permit. Most of the
violations where DUH! acts like trying to carry a pistol on a
plane or some other out of bounds place....

I can't remember the Florida law anymore but I'm pretty sure
that one could not legally carry a weapon with a CCW permit
into a place that serve boose. In NC this is true.

Here In Oklahoma it is against the law to carry a handgun into a bar, concealed handgun license are not. It's also illegal to carry a handgun into any Post Office...school...government meeting... etc etc

I've thought about getting mine, just never got around to it. Whether it's a good deal or not, I don't really know. I do know it would be nice to have a gun on your person, if the need arises.

One thing the license does is keep the honest people honest. And just maybe make the bad guy think a little /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Billy that may indeed be the same here in Ohio also. This law although passed does not take affect for 90 days. I am sure there will be certain stipulations regarding where one can and can't take a weapon. You would think that people might use good judgment here, but then again it's always better if it is spelled out in black and white for all to see.

Just checking in and then need to get ready for the work week.

However, I wanted to say that I have an Indiana hand gun permit. I have for years. It makes the honest citizen Legal.

Other than problems in some Indiana Cities, namely Gary that has a real problem with weapons with NO-Permits, the law has not created a concern.

My permit from the State advises to be concealed. If you come into contact with a Cop, tell them you are packing.

I do not carry everyday.

Works for me.
