Just because the law says you can, does not mean one should.

Once again, I'll agree with a statement like that. Kindof funny really, since both that point and the one Bird made was on my mind when I posted my initial reply - just didn't type it in. (since I'm normally too verbose as it is. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

I will not state one way or the other what I would do in a given situation as there are too many pitfalls in doing such - suffice to say that I am familiar with all of the points made to date in this part of the thread and have spent quite a bit of time going over the legal, practical, and moral aspects in this area - and unfortunately, not all of my understandings/beliefs/experiences have come out of a book or from talking it over in a class.

Undoubtedly, as a number of folks have pointed out on this thread, there is a LOT of stuff to go over, understand, and decide on when it comes to getting a CHL. The one thing that is NOT debatable is that a CHL widens the number of options available to the holder when it comes to protecting themselves and/or those they care for.

BTW, if you look back at CBN, you and I have had this particular "legal" discussion before - what one CAN do vs. SHOULD do and reading the law for themselves vs. taking someone else's "word" for what it means. I don't care to rehash the whole thing again, but suffice to say it appears we are both being consistent in what we said then and what we are saying here.

I can sort of agree with this view. I do not see chasing some one down and shooting them. Once they are fleeing I would leave it to the police. On the other hand if some one is standing in my front room holding a TV or any thing else I am not about to ask questions or simply hope for the best. I think we could all put up a lot of weird cases that support one view or another. I personally think home invasion is a violent crime.
Bird, On a lighter note I really got a kick out of the law regarding weapons in the saddle bags /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Dave

"I do not see chasing some one down and shooting them. Once they are fleeing I would leave it to the police."

Once they're fleeing, you are no longer in imminent danger . You shoot then (in PA, at least), you'll likely get charged with assault, at least.
Another thing to consider when in a self defense situation is where your bullets go if you miss the assailant. You hit an innocent passer-by, you're in trouble.
I read (in more then one article about self defense) that the average gun fight is at a distance of less then 10 feet and lasts well under 10 seconds. Food for thought...
IF I ever had to use my gun, I'll gaurantee you, I'll be in very close proximaty to the thug.

You know, I just read on the NRA web site that a federal judge in D.C. decided the Washington citizens have no individual right to bear arms. This was based upon a ruling on a lawsuit to overturn a gun prohibition established in D.C. in the '70's.
Now...it seems to me that the individual has had that right for about 250 years. It seems to me that our "judges" have lost sight of the Bill of Rights and what this country was founded on. As far as I'm concerned, that judge has commited treason.

To All - It appears we have plumbed the depths of Concealed Carry on this thread. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Feel free to start another thread if I am mistaken. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
