Yes Indeed. I second the use of chairs to place rebar into proper position. Also, you can then just place the welded wire sheets directly on top the rebar. Everything is supported off ground. You can order the chairs right off Amazon, and shipped right to your door.

I have given up Amazon for my 2021 resolution

I will be paving a 75' ラ 10' gate entrance to my property next month, so this thread on concrete and best recommendations for strength was very timely. Originally I was going with 6" thickness and have now increased to 9" thickness to insure it will handle high loads from delivery trucks up to 60,000 lbs.

I also had some time today and took some photos of Texas DOT laying down the new concrete for the I-35 corridor. Its been curing now for 3 weeks and was able to get in and take photos today.

It appears to have 5 feet of compacted select fill, with 5" asphalt on top of the fill, with 14" inches of concrete and a double layer of 1" rebar is placed directly in the middle from 6" to 10" and with 4" concrete over the rebar. Reports are this can handle 120,000lb loads. Thats a lot of steel in this interstate highway.

attachment do not work
That is some really bad subgrade to use 5 feet of fill

Be certain to use "chairs with" either mesh or rebar, if not, your steel will wind up at the very bottom of the slab, and provide zero reinforcement.
Rebar at the bottom provides the most tensile strength

Your county may have some requirements or restrictions, too. It's probably at least partly on their land.

good point, here a vehicle crossing concrete thickness in minimum 100mm, Ops stated 6" ( 150mm) would well and truly exceed this, pack down the base and place mesh in the concrete and a few expansion/stress joints and i would imaging it would be more than enough .

So I'm reading all about this as I've debated on having my driveway concreted.....

How do you change your thoughts on thickness if you are going to be parking (from time to time) your 15,000 industrial backhoe? (on rubber wheels)

Same logic for large International tractor (though I suspect the backhoe weighs more)

pay more attention to the base, the foundation will make a big difference on how much crete you require, clay for instance is very reactive, it expands and contracts with variance in moisture, and therefore is one of the most poorly rated soil types to build upon, crushed rock/sand on the other hand is not very reactive and once packed down provides a very stable base, some technique of placing a slab on clay is a floating type, these have cris crossed piers underneath it to support the slab above and it is free to move on top of the base. concretes greatest attribute id its geat compresion quallity, but as other have mentioned its tensile strengh isnt great and this is why steel reinforcement is used.
