Confused about oil change

I think if you look at this post from The Fred it will show you how bad the Kubota filter compared to the Wix(NAPA) in Freds test their was only one filter that had more paper.

Since Wix specs a screen instead of a water blocking paper fuel filter for the BX, RTV and G2160 I have stopped trusting their cross reference tables. For now I stick with the Kubota filters I know that the cross is never wrong or just barely meets the spec.

I buy my filters from Kubota dealer but I sure wish I had an alternative for the fuel filter. Darn thing is about and inch long and 1" in diameter and cost $17 which is ridiculously priced. Good thing they go for 300 or so hours before needing changed.
All other filters are equally high priced but not such a big deal that I want to spent time nor energy researching a cross reference filter that may or may not be equal.

teikas dad: here's what Napa says about their line of platinium (synthetic based) filters. they're considerably more expensive than their gold line that (imho) are about par with oem: "Our platinum oil filters provide ultimate protection, offering technology for the latest advancements in synthetic oil and performance oil filters. Featuring a host of premium oil filter innovations, including wire-backed synthetic oil filter media, silicone anti-drain back valve,* and a stronger, upgraded can design, our platinum filters are among the best in the industry." .... part of their reasoning so napa salesmen tell me is that since synthetic change intervals are longer, std cellulose filter might be compromised, hence the "improved" filter material (something i don't personally buy into but can't prove it). so then comes the question, is the construction (screen, etc) superior, and does it do a better job (in micron filtering, etc) for what it's designed.... i use T6 rotella (same as you, a great oil) not for extended change intervals, but for it's cold weather properties & change regularly...so......i think you'd be hard pressed to argue that you would actually be getting better protection with the M1 route. just my opinion. show me the evidence, & i'll listen. but i'm sure you can't go wrong with M1 filters, just not any more protection than oem but costing more...i'd much rather change once per year w/oem regardless of hrs rather than using an "upgraded" M1 filter every few yrs..... of course there are those who will disagree, that's what a forum is all about... best of luck :)

The M-1 for my Kubota was about 3/4" longer than the Kubota or Napa filter. It was tough to get it in, I pulled out the sheet metal ever so slightly. Otherwise, Id run any of the 3 and sleep like a puppy.

To bring my knashing of teeth to an end I stopped at the Kubota dealer today and bought an OEM filter. I did check the specs on the NAPA Gold filter (# 1344) and it's the same physical size as the OEM Kubota filter. NAPA doesn't offer the Platinum version (yet) in the 1344 model. (Thanks for that info Big Bubba, I appreciate it.) I really don't mind spending more for a filter if it's a better filter. The Mobil 1 filter was the same price as the OEM filter so money wise it's a wash between them. I went back on Kubota's website and they are claiming that their oil filter has a synthetic medium but they don't offer the full specs anywhere for a real comparison.

I'm going to swap out the OEM for the Mobil 1 for my own piece of mind. If the M1 was physically the same size as the OEM I wouldn't be worrying about it. It's just that with the M1 being 3/4" shorter I was concerned that I wasn't getting the same amount of filtering capability.

Yeah, I know...I overthink and OCD everything.....I'll shut up and get my butt back on the tractor!

Roger that, thanks!

I doubt a filter will break down in a year but I have heard fuel filters breaking down over time especially if water is present. The use of a synthetic medium is a real plus over the standard cellulose because of the possibility of break down even if the micron rating is the same.

Since you have the used M1 filter now why not hold onto it till you change the oil again and open both filters up and check them side by side?
