And scaring them into thinking that they would need a diesel engine, and a dealer in their backyard, to enjoy the many advantages of a PT-425 is even worse!!

Like a 'sugar coating' on a delicious doughnut, the likelihood of needing major service or repair is only a very small part of Power Trac ownership!!

The extra money spent to get even Power Trac's smallest diesel could have bought several replacement engines for a gas PT, if they were ever needed!

PS: The folks around here appreciate new business and are eager to help!!

14, Do not distort my posts.

I offered the opinion that the OP could get a water cooled diesel Kubota, or similar, for the same price--scary stuff--and laid out the facts regarding the service issues with the PT-425 as objectively as I can. I recommend objective posts to everyone.

Nowhere did I ever mention a diesel powered Power Trac, which I believe is air cooled, and is a larger machine to boot. Why do you imply that I did?

I have a PT diesel, Deutz oil cooled. Since we have a farm shop which can do the maintenance and repairs my PT has needed so far, I haven't had to worry about a nearby shop. I have found that the PT work is no more difficult that that on the three John Deere diesels, two Kubota diesels, and array of little gas engines. It's certainly easier than the trucks and cars. I am sure that any shop that can fix a Kubota hydrostatic tractor can also fix the PT. If someone considering a PT doesn't already know such a shop, look around a bit before you buy. I'll bet you'll find someone close.
That being said, today I mowed and shredded some underbrush with the rough-cut mower, carried some brush and delivered some mulch to some azaleas with the large bucket. Knocked down a 4" tree and carried it away with a grapple bucket, loaded a truck with chunks of beechwood, also with the grapple bucket, dug out a rotten post with the hoe, augered a new posthole with the 12" auger, all within 4 hours. (To my wife's amazement, I did everything on the list for today. She'll probably expect me to do that next weekend, too. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif)
I seriously doubt any 3 point tractor I have used could have done half what the PT did, without even any bruises or cuts.

not in 14's case. I think he might have offended somebody and got embarassed and started posting in red. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

He doesn't mean to be offensive, i just don't think he previews his post before sending them. I can't say i preview mine either and when i go back and read them i kinda wonder what the heck i was talking about:p

If you go thru the pt forum you'll see he post some good information. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Exactly!! And, with a little extra time, a PT-425 could have done those jobs too!! (And I'll bet that you were able to do all those jobs without even running to Power Trac for service and repair!!)

What kind of attitude is that? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've had many people ask why I have a pony tail. I usually switch to a sneaky expression, slowly look left... then right... then slowly lean over and whisper in their ear something like, "I have a pony tail.... because I like a pony tail." Some folks laugh, others just give a very uncomfortable blank stare.

As for the hairy ears, I might let it grow and braid that, too! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I used to work with a guy who threatened to grow a pony tail. In turn, his wife threatened to leave him if he did. When I asked how he felt about her threat, all he did was grin and exclaim, "Bonus!"
