<font color="blue"> Yeah, it was just like Soundguy stated earlier, the majority of people operating diesels are all junior high school dropouts, drunks, and dopers -> no wonder they cannot figure it out!

SkyPup,

At the risk of making a totally unrelated post...

Let me be the first to state that you may be giving us high school graduates undue credit!

I'll let the drunks and dopers stand up and speak for themselves... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

LOL, you know I did not mean to offend any junior high school drop outs, dopers, or drunks operating diesel equipment with that statement, nor did I wish to be impolite to them either.

In the never ending oil wars, Oils well that ends well. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I can and will settle this debate for you all. Just pool together your cash, buy 2 BRAND NEW tractors of your choice, JD or Kubota will do, and bring them to my house for me to try out. I'll use dino in one and synthetic in the other. After about 15 years I'll report if there are any differences in power/ performance. I'll then report every 5 years after that.
ps, will pay for the oil changes myself,
bw

Good one but no two tractors are the same. Better yet, maybe you could spend a few dollars and some small amount of time and do it yourself. It would also be a educational experience and some alone time with your tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ps. Good thing your post was not in Kubota land...a JD comment. Well I never..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

After following this & other oil related threads for a while I have decide to go synthetic for my 100 hour oil change.
I went on the Amsoil & Rotella site looking up diesel oil. I couldn't find anything about group 3 or group 4 oils /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif.
The synthetic diesel oils I looked at from Amsoil were Series 3000 5W-30, and 15W-40 HD diesel & marine. The Rotella was 5W-40. Any opinion on which would be better in a BX23. I live in CT, where the climate varies a lot. It was single digits the other day, and it hit 60 last week. My other question is when I do the oil change is there a special synthetic oil filter I should use or stay with the Kubota filter. The cost of the filter is not important, but the quality of it is. I spent too much money on the tractor to risk damaging it by saving $2. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Also, is there any other oil I should be considering?
The tractor is in an unheated shelter.
Thanks,
Ken

I'm a touch over the 100 hour mark also and switched to Mobil 1 5W-30. Temps here in MI recently have been slightly below zero to the high teens and the Mobil 1 really makes a difference at cold start-up as the tractor sits in one of the unheated buildings with the transmission heater plugged in. (Engine heater on this year's "to-do" list) I went with Mobil 1 because of years of trouble free service in my vehicles and because I can get it at Sam's Club (unless it's on sale somewhere else for less). I passed on Amsoil because of principle; the multi-level marketing scam.
I stick with the original (overpriced, made in Japan) JD filter to avoid any hassles should the engine fail. The only other filer I would consider would be the Purolator Pure One and I'm not sure they have one for the Yanmar motors.

I would use a Baldwin filter, but that is me.

Next is "...Amsoil because of principle; the multi-level marketing scam".. And why is MLM's bad? Most companies are like that (Bose, Weber grills). MLM's work since it keeps every moron from selling there product.

If you are going just by pour point temps, Mobil 1 will not do any better then a group 3 oil.

I am running Mobil one simply because I cannot find a place locally to buy Amsoil. I don't care about the MLM, but when it makes the stuff hard to find when you do want to buy, that's frustrating.
