Their ad reads like a sucker-punch. IF they COULD economically rebuild it and sell if for more, they would have done so already. In my opinion, it's probably buying into a lot of headaches, that they already have discovered.
It's a "Pass" in my book.

you're absolutely right. That's why it would be best to watch this one and see how low they'll finally go. I wouldn't be scared of it for $800.

there be better trailers that are older between 1200 to 2000, than that trailer there, and would be in good working condition, besides little rust spots here or there, or perhaps needing to replace 1 or 2 deck boards if that.

I know we live in the central midwest, home of trailer manufacturing and "super cheep" trailers. But there is no were you can get a 14,000 20' equipment trailer with 8 bolt axles that doesnt need deck rebuilt, paint, wiring, axle/brake rebuilds and new tires for $2k or less.

Yes I understand there are plenty of 18' "car haulers" out there for $1500 with 5 bolt axles but those are NOT 7-8 ton equipment trailers.

So it comes down to your negotiating skills and your repair skills.
If you don't insult them you will be paying too much!
It's easy to buy someone elses problems with a used trailer, especially with your winter cycles.

if ya got a truck to pull that much weight, i am wondering why you don't go with a goose neck trailer?
ya putting some time and money into truck alone, and then the trailer as well no matter what you do...

if ya got ability as in tools, and know how. go take a look before it is gone.

hhmmsss thinking about it, i'am guessing your 30 to 40 miles away from trailer, and i am about 10 to 15 miles away, i might have to go check it out and buy it out from under ya! LOL. joking.

If it is such a great deal one of the insurance guys would have hooked it up with one of his buddies. You are forgetting how the real world works.

I sit squarely on the side of the fence of BP trailer is more useful for me than a GN.

As to time and money into a truck to tow it. I think far to many people on this forum get caught up driveing there $60K 3/4 ton or one ton trucks to office parking lot every day to realize that if you actually have a farm, things like 1970's or 1980's medium duty trucks trucks eg C60 or F600 (aka grain trucks) are a dime a dozen on CL. $10K usually will buy you a very nice non-basket case truck with more than enough tow rateing and GCWR to tow a bumper pull 7-8 ton trailer.
With a "real" farm its easy to put farm tags on it, and farm insurance doesn't batt an eye at that truck.

The only real issue is, once your playing in the above world, a deck over trailer thats a full 8' wide is much more usefull than the version i posted.

But mostly the thread was informational in terms of getting peoples opinion on what they would and wouldn't rebuild in terms of trailers and what they would pay.

I'd buy it, not for $2500 but I think you're dreaming if you think you could buy it for less than $1k. That's the perfect rebuild for someone with the skills who don't have to include their time into the cost to repair it and owns the tools needed (welder, plasma cutter/ torch, etc). Like anything you need to look at it in person to see exactly what's damaged. I would bring a jack and spin each tire to make sure they aren't bent or binding and to check tire condition.

It might be a good excuse to buy a new Blackhawk 10 ton portapower.
