No reason for it to chew up tires, if you get it right.

If you don't have the equipment, or the ability, avoid it.

I have fixed truck frames a lot worse than that.

I wouldn't make an offer. The way the ad is wrote you can tell they're not seeking offers, but want what they ask. They think it's an awesome deal someone should jump on, so awesome that if folk are too stupid to see what an amazing deal it is, they'll fix it themselves and sell it for a whole bunch more money, or so they say...

You can see in the pics it is twisted at least 9" or more (check the alignment and count the deck boards on pic 6 of the ad)... The $500-700 mentioned above is all that it is worth in the condition it sets, tops. At best you end up with a pair of axles, suspension, the tongue, and some bits of hardware. The rest needs redone from scratch. If you could somehow pull that 9" worth of bend out of it, you're going to have to add hundreds of pounds of extra bracing to keep it square and support the areas that were bent or stressed by the bends. I'd personally chop it into pieces to use the straight parts as bracing for an entirely new trailer frame and recycle the rest.

By the way the ad is wrote I have a feeling they would take $500-700 as an insult and be a real pr1ck. I'd call and go look, but I'd refrain from making an offer, just watch for a month or so while he wakes up to the fact that is an insane amount of cash for twisted steel. When/if you go look, take a jack with you and raise it up and spin each of the tires to ensure they still rotate properly. Good chance with the impact that unit took, the axles are likely not that great anymore...

Rule of thumb for me on salvage is to determine what is still usable & of value to me. Determine what retail for those items is then pay less than half of that amount. Other wise I would not save enough to cover my labor spent recovering those items.

The axles are 8 bolt but what weight capacity? What is the ply rating of the tires? Is there a spare tire? is the lighting system still usable? Does the jack still work? How much will the scrap portion of the trailer weigh to help off set the purchase price? Where I am scrap is around $185 a ton.

$700 as a max price sounds about right.

I've repaired much worse! Repaired semi Tractors and Trailers, Trucks and Truck Bodies for over 30 years.
It looks like just the two side channels are bent and should be able to be straightened. Hard to tell just from pics.
The price IS too high and if they could fix it and sell it for way more they would.
If I really needed it would might go $1000.00 after checking for additional damage.

StimW;

I think that that the big difference here is that, with your experience, repairing Semi tractors and trailers is that a business or, more likely, an insurance company was footing the bill. If an individual is paying the bills the economics are way different. I personally would not touch this thing.

Still ..... My 2 cents worth.

My thought was you cut the bent frame rails at the end of the V tongue and throw them away. (or save them for some other farm project)

New 6" channel is welded on and axles attached. Check the sq of the tilt portion of the bed. If its still sq, drop it on the new frame rails and weld it on fixed. Cut off the bent steel ramps on the end and do something with the bent section at the end were the other tail light is supposed to be.

Judging from the rust on the bent areas my guess is its been sitting for a while likely from last year.

From other listings that 12u is listed at 15780 GVWR. that probably assumes a fairly hefty tongue weight but thats what its stickered at.

a similar PJ trailer is $6K new.

I think there $2500 price is based on a hefty $2K rebuild price with a street value of $4500 which I think is going price for a used version per googlefu.

Still not interested in putting the money in it.

2013 TRAILKING TKT12U TILT EQUIP TRAILER

would you buy it for parts? axles?

Can a trailer have a salvage title?

Rebuild from the tongue V back with new steel in a non-tilting version?

Their ad reads like a sucker-punch. IF they COULD economically rebuild it and sell if for more, they would have done so already. In my opinion, it's probably buying into a lot of headaches, that they already have discovered.
It's a "Pass" in my book.
