Folks
Here is my situation, this year in the N.E we have had a good amount of snow fall. I have always had a dedicated snow blowing tractor (simplicity sovereign with cab) the tractor is only 8yo but the blower is 43plus years. That being said there is not much more that can be done to weld more patches ect onto it. So here is the dilema I was thinking about a blower for the BX. I think the front mounts are nice but they are so darn expensive. I am leaning twards a rear mount because I think the FEL is still useful for the wet slush and for the huge berms of snow that the city plows leave which my current blower/tractor cant ram thru. Do many of you that use the fel and 3pt blower find after a wile that the fel was a good idea but dont wind up using it much? I dislike the fact that i have to look over my shoulder to use the blower but it is what it is.
Which size blower should I be looking at for a bx? I do not need a huge blower I have limited garage space. I assume the blower would have to be atleast wider than the wheelbase of the BX. Being in the boston area there are Not many places to go to look for 3pt blowers. There is a TSC in Nh, and my dealer stocks woods and I think kubota rear blowers.

I have a BX2660 not the BX24.
Everyones situation is different. Here is mine.
Maybe on flat level ground a front mount blower is good although I recommend the rear mount blower. I use the FEL and blower on EVERY storm.
The only Flat area I have is the front and sides of my 3-bay garage. I myself would not be able to use a front mount because of the terain I have. Often I also need to use the FEL to get "unstuck" by pushing the tractor with the bucket tilt.
I live on a gravel road and the town sands the road with real course sand (almost a gravel) The pile of snow they leave is so full of this couse sand that I can guarrantee I will shear a bolt if I don't FEL the first foot or so. I clear about 100 feet of the edge of road.

I have a MF GC 2300. Nearly the same size as your BX. I have a 51 inch Meteor 3pt blower. I love it! I'd suggest 51 to 52 (depending on make) inch as being perfect. I think Woods make some of the best attachments out there. That being said, their is a price to be paid both in dollars & in weight.

We have the 50 inch 3 point Buhler for $1995 and the 60 inch for $2195 + cheap shipping. Ken Sweet

Obviously everybody's situation is different. I'm not sure what the terrain has to do with not being able to use a front blower though. Thats what I have on my BX22 and what I blow is certainly not flat, and I have no problems. I also have not missed not having the loader, but I do have chains all the way around and have not been stuck. I can see where the loader would be good to move the snow that the plow has pushed up, but I don't have that to deal with that here. I found a used 2650 blower and made my own mounts and drivetrain. With the latest addition of a hydraulic chute rotator (to be used for the first time in the morning) I have about $1200 invested. The 50" width works good on the BX. I don't think my neck could take the looking backwards anymore and I didn't even consider a rear mount.

Do you prefer a blower or would you entertain the thought of a plow? I got a plow mounted on my BX24. I live in a windy area and no cab so a plow is better suited for me since everything is front mounted. no rear crick issues. I find I rarely need the FEL bucket.

That is certainly something to consider. It does not take much of a breeze for me to wish I had a plow and not a blower. I am really getting to dislike the snow mist blowing in my face. When there is any breeze or wind I tend to use the FEL

I'll weigh in here.
I have a BX1500, and live 30 miles north of Boston.
After a few years of using a backblade, I purchased a Meteor blower - I think it's actual cutting width is around 45 inches. The BX1500 could probably handle a little more (such as 52"), so a larger BX should have no trouble. It's really controlled by how fast you drive. I don't recall what my blower's advertised width was, either.

I leave the FEL on - it's very useful for moving snow in tight areas; around the mailbox, backdragging the garage door, knocking down town plow drifts. I also use it to haul fire wood from the shed. It's much nicer having it than not, even though it means blowing backwards.

I am very glad I went to this setup. It moves any kind of snow with appropriate speed adjustments. High banks aren't a problem when we get a lot of snow like this year.

In my situation, the wind blows in a single direction if it blows, and it's across my drive. So, I just always blow down-wind, and it keeps the snow out of my face.

Roma,
I live in RI and I have a heavy duty 5' Curtis plow that mounts on the loader arms of my Kubota B7500 (after the bucket is removed) with 4 pins for sale. It is in great shape and works well, unfortunately though, my old, sunken driveway is lower than the edges on both sides so I have run out of room to push the snow. So...I am in the market for a blower myself.

My two cents:

Buy a Kubota front blower. If money is a concern..... I frequently see lightly used front blowers w/subframs for sale on CL for what you will pay for a new rear blower. As far as I'm concerned, anything you'd want to move with your loader, you can do better with a front blower (rocks and horse poop excluded)....... and there will be no snowbanks to deal with afterward.
