We wanted to be able to slow the flow way down to the hydraulic motor so we ordered two Deltrol flow control valves from our friends at Surplus Center $13.95 each. We are currently patiently awaiting their delivery, wait scratch that word patiently. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looks good. Will be interested in how the 'slip' clutch works in cold weather as well as the flow control valves. Are they the ¼" npt ones?

Those are the ones. Part #9-6562 We are hoping that this works out. So far has been a relatively inexpensive conversion.

Nice project. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Did you cut off several extra pieces of tygon hose? You may need some of them to use instead of shear bolts.
Have you check into fittings for the hydraulic motor? Looks like they are straight o'ring fittings.

Looks like a pretty slick set-up including the flexible "slip clutch".

The flow controls are likely the type that restrict flow in one direction and allow free flow in the other, thus the need for two.

There are similar models that control the flow in both directions, but the simplest method is flow restricting disks that install inside a fitting or port. May take some experimenting to figure out what size orifice is best, but they are used in a number of systems for just this reason although they can be baffeling to those who do not realize these "hidden" restrictors are in the system.

Thanks guys. Ron we did in fact cut a couple of extra pieces of the flexible hose as we have no idea how this slip coupling is going to hold up so a few extras can't hurt. If the hose turns out to be a bad idea then we can always go back to the shock couplings like we used years ago on water pumps like Bell & Gossett.

Rip the flow control valves that we ordered do in fact use the check valve so they are wide open in reverse flow, and for that reason we figured two might be needed for this job.

Integration Engineering used the fixed restrictors in our current top and tilt setup so we are familiar with them, but not knowing for sure what size we might need for a real slow rotation of the chute we just wimped out and decided to play it kinda safe and go the adjustable route for this project. We'll see how things work out once the rest of the hydraulic hoses get here.

I was curious what rpm the hydraulic motor turns at?

Dave it's a Ross P/N MG040613AAAB but I have no idea what RPM it's actually rated at. We couldn't find any info on it anywhere on the net. I can tell you that the game plan is to use 2 flow valves to throttle the hydraulic flow way down hoping for a minimum rotation on the motor. I won't know if that idea works or not until our hydraulic hoses are delivered from Discount Hydraulic Hose in a couple of days.

Thanks, I too have been looking at purchasing a motor for the same reason, but there are a lot of those pumps that no info can be found on. Thought about the valve thing, but it's been low priority. I would love to here how it goes.

Dave it's been the same with us, that is we didn't even consider doing this in June or July. Heck no, we wait until just weeks before Christmas and in Ohio that's taking a gamble with the snow. I'm guessing if we needed the blower in a pinch before the rest of the parts came we could still crank the hydraulic motor by hand though to rotate the chute.

Anyway we will do an update and let you all know if it does, or doesn't do as expected.
