Sandman, I've got a '70 GTO that mysteriously gets bald rear tires all the time, so the burning rubber isn't too bad. It's the apprentice EOD tech style kabooming that bothers me......
If you figure out just what is causing the mysterious balding of the tires, let me know, because it appears your GTO suffers from a diease common to a lot of autos of that age, including my '66 Chevy. The one thing that my car has to help to starve off the onset of the costly diease, is IRS and positraction. These things slow the progression of the diease but in no way are they a cure for it. The initial cost for these prohibitors is typically expensive, but luckily my car came with them from the factory.
