My father-in-law runs a compost operation on his farm. People pay to dump clean compostable materials at his farm, he composts them, and then sells the compost for big $. Pretty much a win-win situation!
Anyway, when he first started he planned to bag a lot of his compost (he now deals in very large quantities with one dedicated customer) so we needed a way to sort material. WE started with a sander body from a truck and mounted that on cement pilings. Compost was loaded into the hopper where it went out the back and into a cylindrical screen. The screen revolved (and vibrated if I remember) and consisted of two different sized openings for course and fine material to drop through. They dropped onto conveyors that were perpendicular to the screen and about waist high. We had a little attachment on the end to slip the bags onto and a person could bag a lot of material in a little time. Material that made it all the way through the screen was too course/hadn't broken down enogh yet and was returned to the piles to decay some more. We barely had it set up and he hooked up with that single customer. He still has it out back. I can try to take some photos of it tonight on my way home if I remember. He ought to sell the thing; I don't see him ever using it as it had been intended....
