Ha, our snow is gone, actually grass is green up ever so slowly. FINALLY! Actually, my property looks a little bit like yours with the pond, Oosik. This is us in the summer, man I can't wait!

Wow - your grass is green & long. Mine - green & very short. That's why I posted the two pictures. Similar situation.
However - I have no yard ducks. Just @#$% pocket gophers. Looks like the geese down by your pond have found something to eat.
I have a mated pair of geese on my lake. Just one pair. They drive all others off. Rather unneighborly of them. Considering the lake IS ten acres.

Yeh that was last year late spring / early summer, before the heat of the summer starts dulling the green somewhat. I always mow the grass at a higher setting.
Do you have muskrats in your pond? Man, I got tons of those! I got chipmunks by the house, and muskrats in the pond lol. It's fun taking shots at them though.

No muskrats. An extended beaver family. They have a big lodge - dead center - at the beginning of the cattails. For me, the beavers are very beneficial. They maintain a low dam at the outlet of the lake. The lake is five acres of open water - five acres of cattails. Its 80 feet deep down the center - in the open water. Varies from 10' at the beginning of the cattails to 3' at the outlet.
Enlarge the winter picture. You can see the "hump" down there, at the far end, in the center of the cattails. That's the beaver lodge.

Oh, you got a lake. Man that cool! Yeh, I see the lodge. Glad to hear the beavers are working for ya. I had one of those! I evicted him lol, he was eating our trees. And by evicted I mean I trapped him, ate 'im. He was delic! :licking:

My lake is a small example of most all lakes in this area, also Idaho & Western Montana. The area is called the Channeled Scablands. Many, many layers of basaltic lava ( see the cliffs in the pics ). Then here come ancient Lake Missoula. Ice dam at the lake outlet. It would wash out and a wave of water a mile high would wash thru this area. Happened many times - thousands of years ago.
The little lake is dangerous - year round. There are small & large springs on this end of the lake. Normally, the lake has 10" to 14" of ice cover. Except over the springs. It will be 1/4" over the springs. With snow cover you can not see the springs. Walk out on the ice - you know the rest.
The cliffs are the same on both sides. Vertical basaltic lava. Water depth at the cliff face - 45'. Fall in - better be a good swimmer.
Standing rule - you bring your kids. Bring an approved life jacket for each kid. They ONLY go outside with an adult supervising and wearing their life jacket.
Been here on the property now 38+ years. Darn near lost two dogs. One fell thru a spring hole in the winter. The other thought it would be great sport to try to catch a goose in the summer. GIANT leap off the cliff - a very audible OOOF - panic - would not listen to me. I had to climb down where he could see me and call him from lake level.
However - the lake currently has a fantastic population of large & small mouth bass. I enjoy standing on the cliffs and watching them swim past. Rank & file.
I've eaten bar-b-q beaver. Not bad at all. A tad greasy though.
