Are those tall, skinny trees Poplar? 50 years ago Poplar trees were common here for wind break around building sites. They were short lived trees and you rarely see them anymore. Thanks for the pic from down under!
Yes, very common in the area as windbreaks for high plains cattle and sheep which roam pretty much wherever they want and come down to the low country for winter to get them out of the snow.
Still see them being rounded up on horseback.
Very open and subject to high winds.
If you remember the movie A river runs through it, here are the falls they filmed when the boys took a boat over them. It's on my wife's fathers place near Jackson Wyoming.
We went down to Padre Island National Seashore last weekend. Great place to get away for a bit. This is North Padre Island, no development, just a 70 mile natural beach with lots of sand dunes. We ended up driving down the beach to mile marker 20 which is in what is known as the Little Shell area, close to what is known as Big Shell. If you look at the photos it is easy to see where it got its name. Temps were great, wife and I had a good time.
From atop one of the dunes
20 mile marker, there is a marker every 5 miles
Coming back from the Laguna Madre which is on the inside of the land mass. Great wade fishing for Redfish.
