+1...very unique!

Here's a few shots from this past Saturday's hike, various trails in the Conkle's Hollow & Hocking State Forest area in SE Ohio. Fall color was probably 3-5 days past peak, due to recent rains & high winds, but still breathtaking none-the-less.

Been to conkles hollow many yrs ago. I grew up east of Caldwell.

This shot is of a bull snake, up on top of a 13' post in my pole barn. That's the roof tin you can see in the photos. How he got up there I have no idea, but somehow he knew that bird nest was up there and so he went up and had a snack of eggs or baby birds.

They have mastered the indignant look but beware those claws, they do know how to use them, look but don't try to touch.

When thinking about time I often relate it to the differences in species on the different continents of our Earth. Or even the different languages of man. That takes more than a couple decades. A Koala is a prime example. :)

Took this yesterday. He's a jumping spider ( Jumping spider - Wikipedia ), about the size of a pencil eraser. Found him living in the wife's horse trailer.

Koalas have trouble surviving over 40 deg C. Today was 40 C and this little bloke was struggling. He climbed down and went to sleep in the shade. We provide water for them.
The Cockies also come in for water at present. These two come every morning and evening. They are pretty quiet.

I didn't know that about the Koalas. Why the heck are they there if they can't stand the temps!!!! :)

Thanks for the pics and explanations of the Koalas and Cockies. We don't have anything that compares to those two. I'll think about it though!!!!

Thanks ovszd. Koalas don't have any method of controlling their body temperature. They are known to just drop out of trees in extreme heat conditions. Sadly we are not even into summer yet and we are having high temps already.

You ozzies got those fires there going on now. They showed a lady rescuing a koala, he was pretty burned. That little thing was crying as she was dousing him with water, I tell you what I almost teared up....and I kill my own ducks and pigs for food, go figure.

Yes GeneV. I think that vid went worldwide.

Edited

Koala Conservation folk have now set up trail cams to monitor the koalas so I may be able to post some night time activities in the future.
