Been on the Steens several times...not all that far from where I live. The view from the top down onto the Alvord Desert is spectacular.

Speaking of hawks that get up close and personal... saw this guy out my kitchen window this morning. He was about 15ft away. Photo was snapped with my cell phone through a double pane window with screen. Funny how they perch with one leg. Maybe it identifies as a flamingo?

There is/was a long running thread on “pallets in the field”. It started out as a legitimate question on what pallets were stacked leaning up against each other like a tepee. Of course over a period of years and many pages it was a long running joke.
