This fine example of a Nevada speed goat moved onto my place a few weeks ago. Now that the heat is on he hangs out in the shade from my trees next to my house (there's also water there for him to drink).

When we were out west about 20 years ago, we were impressed by their speed. Saw many small groups and one herd of about 100. We stopped the car while they crossed the road. They were in no hurry that day.

I've only seen them on pine trees, but it sure looks the same. How far is it from your house?

It is about 300 yards from the house. It was a very noisy storm, can't say if we heard that one or not.

Around here you won't spend much time traveling then, just counting. Huge flocks of them around despite a long hunting season. Very prolific.

I would say lightening strike.

Neighbors large oak splintered like that from a lightening strike.

The difference though is his oak blew apart in strips like that

From the base up to about 40ft splintered sending 40ft long strips about 8" wide. A couple of said strips landed in my yard 60ft away.

The top dropped straight down and was laying on top of what was left of the trunk.

Mother nature can be pretty impressive

We heard the strike and all three of us (wife, dog, and I) almost dented the ceiling in the bedroom

Momma jumped up while I was mowing. I took a few pics and left the area. I’ll wait a couple weeks to mow again
