Yep. Tried it once. Didn't like it. I use photography as an excuse to get out in nature AWAY from people.

Found what looks to be a lightning strike on this cedar. Has anyone seen this before? As far as I can tell the tree is still alive.

Yes, I've seen it several times over my life, both fresh and years old. One I recall hit a large oak across the street from my parent's house and blew several pieces that looked like split rail fence railings all over their yard! One came across the street into my parents' yard as well. Quite impressive.

I've only seen them on pine trees, but it sure looks the same. How far is it from your house?

We had a lightning strike that was about 500 feet from the house one time that was unbelievably loud, that also shook the house pretty good!!!!

That looks like a lighting strike to me. We had what I think is a cottonwood get hit across the road from our house get hit, we heard it. It happened about a year ago and it’s still alive.

I was parked at a boat launch once, waiting out a storm, with lightning crashing all around. The tree just a ways from the pier was hit. Bark flew off from top to bottom, and all of the roots around the drip line sent up clouds of steam. The guy that came in a few minutes after me though standing on the pier holding the rope to his boat didn't think it was funny, and took off like a shot and hid in the latrine, and left the boat to drift off and away.

This fine example of a Nevada speed goat moved onto my place a few weeks ago. Now that the heat is on he hangs out in the shade from my trees next to my house (there's also water there for him to drink).
