Cool Running TC's: Is it only the big boys?

Re: Cool Running TC\'s: Is it only the big boys?

I have a TC35D that had the cooling problem. After two trips to the dealer and being told that it was nothing to worry about, I read of similar problems in past postings on TBN. I blocked about half of the radiator with cardboard and that put the operating temp. right in the center of the green range.

After a lengthly fight with NH "Customer Service" (NOT), I sent a letter to NH credit with whom I financed the purchase of the tractor informing them that payments have stopped until I have my outstanding issues resolved. Shortly after that and a 2 hour meeting with the owner of the dealership, I had all kinds of calls and the whole situation changed.

I finally got the dealer to address the issues, and the tractor now warms up to normal range during cold temps. Don't let them tell you otherwise. It also helped me to print and present the past threads on this problem, which included the NH bullitin and repair part numbers. Amazingly, the dealer had no previous knowledge of the issues. Good Luck.

I really question at this point any NH dealer that is not aware of the problem. One or both of the problems have showed up on almost every class III Boomer sold. My dealer had the TSB's on each of these a year ago.

I bought a new thermostat to look at for $9.00 bucks. I looked at the post by Diesel Power on the Cold TC 45D. The pic that Jinman has in it shows the problem with his. The thermostat for the TC 18 is different, it does not have the piece that is holding his open. It does have a some hole (.051") for circulation. I did look at the thermostat in the tractor, it is fine. You can pull the top hose off of the radiator to see it and you can also pull the top plug off the water pump to look at it too.

Solo, it sounds to me like you spent $9 and gave lots of folks here 100s of $s of relief from worry about their tractors./w3tcompact/icons/clever.gif/w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif I suppose it could be that NH has just changed that design, but probably not. Folks still worried can check their thermostats by removing the hose if their tractor doesn't seem to heat up.

I covered the inside of my grill with cardboard today to reduce the airflow. The temp gauge on my TC18 has been about 1/4 of the way into the green with the temps in the mid 20s. Today with the grill covered and the temps in the mid teens the gauge almost got to the 1/2 point. I am going to try and cover the radiator screen and see if I can get it a little warmer.

The hydraulics usually wine a little in the cold but today with the grill covered they smoothed right out.

BGM,

Sometimes the simple solutions are the best/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

I'll give it a shot next time I'm out tractoring.

Well 15 minutes of light duty plowing, garage was 25 deg, outside temp 8 deg, carbord on grille. Guage was 5/16 - 3/8 instead of 1/4. Making progress.
