Do you need to store long, narrow items?

Tube Doors look like they could be useful for certain storage. I've seen these on the engineer's and surveyor's trucks to store their tripods and rods etc.
Various sizes and materials.

I liked them until I saw the price!! A roll of duct tape is a lot less. I use PVC all the time for shipping long automotive moldings. Stuff a rag in the end and duct tape it closed. Off to the Post Office to pay for a oversize package...

Howdy Junk,

Yeah, I know what you mean. Nevertheless, apparently some people buy them, I see them all over the place on trucks and vans up by the ladder racks.

I see a lot of trucks that use the 6" PVC pipe and a 6" threaded clean out for the end cap. Hole drilled in the center and a cable or chain added to keep the cap from becoming lost when removed to access the interior. Hard to pay $48 for a item when you are in the plumbing business and you can buy the clean out for $6.00.. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Yep, that's exactly what we did way back when I installed water softners (25+ yrs ago). We made our own tubes with the threaded clean out on one end of the 6" pvc and a cap on the opposite end. Worked great. We didn't go so far as to add the chain so that we didn't loose the cap, but that would be a nice addition.

Not when you look at the price of, say, an industrial quality tripod case!
Pvc is relatively cheap and the lid does mak it look better than a piece of plumbing. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yep, all of our trucks use the clean out system.
