Hey Cactus,

Please don't release if you can. Based on location in profiles, LTMC, edski, Darren, Electric City and myself (current posters to this thread) are all in your general area. It or its offspring may venture to visit us.

I gotta agree about NOT relocating captured animals. You can cause more harm than good even though your intentions are good. A disease prevalent in one geographic area is easily introduced into other areas by this method.
Up in my area a few years ago we a big epidemic of rabies & mange in raccoons. This spread to other animals Coyotes, deer, etc, as well. DEC finally tracked to source down to a litter of raccoons that two guys found down in West Virginia (I believe it was) and thought it would be a good idea to bring them back home and let them loose. Well, those ill coons set off a big plague if you will and spread until the die off settled.
Simply put, leave the relocations to the professionals that know what the ramifications may be.

Sorry Cactus. I'll qualify my post as now being hypothetical.
Didn't mean to imply anything. Like you said, we're just talking.

I just now got back since beginning this post - I was believing that relocating was the thing to do ... maybe not ... another thought that came to mind tonight - we just bought the trap and set it this evening - once the thing is in the trap - how do I get it out without the chance that it could turn on me? Selfish as it may sound - I'd much prefer not to be bitten nor even take a chance of it - quick dispatch just may be the answer. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Long story short,

A long walk with a ex. down a back road we see a cat just laying in the road.She and I walk right up to it-two feet away Big Face and Big short tail.

I grab her and try? to explain this is a bobcat and to get the **** away from it-"well it must be "tame" it let us get this close"

RABIES=Shoot-Shovel and Forget!!!!!

Anytime I've 'let' anything out of the trap that still moves, I haven't had it turn on me. They will be making tracks fast outta there. You can keep the trap between you and 'it' when you release it.
If concerned, then use a wire or rope to fashion a pull, that will open the gate while you are at a distance (personally, I think being close to the trap is the best distance, as you would have to guess which way they will run if you are at some distant location, and you don't want them thinking your leg is a tree /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ).
I've released some cats, if they have a collar and appear to be the neighbors. Squirrels are usually pretty frantic when you approach the trap. Skunks don't seem to be too upset or afraid, but I approach them with greater caution. They are probably one's worst nightmare.
