Could it possibly be from the three point area or draft controls?

Hi Guys,

Just bought myself a Iseki tractor. doing all the oils as I dont think it has had any love for a while.

I found these chunks in the transmission oil filter. Should I be worried?

I think you already know the answer to your own question. That's a thrust washer & part of a gear. It may or may not last, but my guess is you'll never be comfortable with it. The damage isn't going to get better. It might last a while, but it also might get worse. If it does get worse, the problem might become too big to handle.

And nobody could maintain any self-respect if they avoided telling a potential buyer about the problem - which may turn into a financial hit that you don't want to take.

At what point is it time to just get on with fixing it? BTW, how did you get into this? There might be a lesson there for other buyers.

The good news is that a straight-gear tranny is a straightforward job & you'll have a nice machine when you get done. A high-school age friend told me last night that he could now pull and replace his jeep transmission in an hour and twenty minutes....although he allowed that it took somewhat longer the first 5 times. And WAY longer the very first time.

There iare a couple of advantages to doing your first large mechanical job - like an engine or transmission. One is that it is actually kinda interesting to learn about. The second is that it frees a person from ever having to fear it again.

First Iseki is not an "off Brand" it is a very reliable Japanese built tractor. They build a lot of MF tractors for them... if you have heard of MF.

This would like saying Yanmar is off brand.. Wait JD uses Yanmar motors which would be like calling JD off brand.

You have a nice tractor worth taking it to a MF dealer and talking to them. You have 4 MF dealers around Melborne. Take it to one and get their opinion. Don't run it like it is.

Fix it and keep it, or fix it and sell it, or advertise it as is—-just be on the level. This is why I buy everything new.

So, much to probably everybody's disgust, I didn't worry about giving the tranny an overhaul of any sort.

Just don't have the cash, time or experience to pull it apart myself or pay someone.

After lots of deliberation I think (and hope) the cast bit of metal is not from a gear, but maybe part of the case. Yes the washer was a thrust washer of some sort, but i'm willing to gamble a bit and hope that the 1mm of tolerance I have lost is not going to cause any issues in my lifetime.

So all the transmission oil and filters were changes, and Ive used the tractor for about 3 hours now, slashing and using the FEL. no unusual noises to speak of and its all going well. Fingers crossed it stays like that!

Thanks
