If the truck is getting some miles and you depend on it you may just want to get a spare. Takes all of 15 minutes to change.

Thanks. That's reassuring if I end up with a 1-ton F-series gasser for my towing vehicle.

All 5.4s had COPs. Only the earlier 4.6 had plug wires. They changed
over to the COP in 99 or maybe 2000. I'm with the others, get an extra
and an extra spark plug and put them with your other supplies.

I'm headin' in that direction. Don't know what I'll end up with. But the looking is fun.

Diesels have a whole another set of much more expensive problems. Try to stay with a 7.3 less power than 6.0 but cheaper and more reliable.

I've got 212K miles on my '01 F-150 and have had 2 of them go out. Considering that's the only thing that's ever gone wrong with the truck, I'm not complaining.
