It is correct I believe, although I cannot regurgitate the specific technical reason for it at the moment - I read it at one time and understood it, but having no real further need for the info I promptly forgot it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My experience seems to follow most everyone else. I have an older 900 MHz and two newer 2.4 GHz. All will work outside the house, but the 900 works a little farther and clearer. But even it will not work much more than about 100' from the base.

My 900 mhz. will work a lot farther and without static if the base station is near a window. I buy phones off ebay & when they dont work or we drop them we just pitch them & buy another one (cheap way to go)

On portable phones, the higher the frequency is (2.4Ghz compared to the higher 5.8Ghz) the shorter the range. More line of sight is required meaning the antenna's on the phone and base almost have to see each other. If you can put the base by a window it might help the range. I think stores still sell 900Mhz cordless phones. That would give you better range than 2.4 or 5.8Ghz from the house to an outside building. Metal siding will also cut down the phone signal too.

Jerry, I believe you're absolutely correct. I had an old-school AT&T Nomad 900-MHz that seemed to have incredible range. I really like my Panasonic 2.4 GHz "mega-range extreme" (yeah, yeah) Model KX-TG2563B (one at home, one at the shop), but it doesn't have quite the range of the old 900-MHz. And from what everyone is saying at the 5.8's, I think I'll pass if possible.

Hmm, just thought of something. We have wireless Internet, so we can't use 2.4s. I've been tapping into a Wi-Fi "hotspot" lately at home (Linksys "G", 54 MBPS), and never noticed any problem when using my 2.4 GHz phone. *** Sure enough, they're both 2.4 GHz, but maybe they have a way of co-existing? ***

Well I ordered a Craftsman Shop phone from Sears that was on sale 50% off. It is 900Hz so maybe it will have good range, and it is "supposed" to be extra durable. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Did you know there is a way to hook up some of the little GMRS radios to your PC and use them as a phone ?

Forget the "residential" variety cordless phone. They aren't up to it.

Find an EnGenius Technologies cordless telephone. They have by far the range - something like 300 acres, 15 floors, etc. (if that is not enough - use a cell phone!)
Just get the checkbook out!

I'm not sure what the difference is, but ours are the Panasonic 2.4GHz, Model KX-TG2383BP; one base, 3 handsets that are 3 years and 2 months old and have never failed yet. We have taken them "next door" to another house several times, but that's probably only 100' or so. About a month after we bought them at Sam's Club, we also bought another set just like them for one of our daughters and I know she carries one with her when she visits neighbors. We've been really happy with them so far.

I didn't see any pricing. Do you know how much they run?

Thanks
