I don't know if this is the right forum or not so please move if necessary.

I recently purchased a new core aerator for my tractor. I'm aware that I should not repeatedly drive heavy things over a drain field, but is it safe to run the aerator over it, maybe, once every two years? The tines aren't long enough to come anywhere near the actual drain pipes.

Cory, I really don't see a problem unless the field pipes are not as deep as they should be. But as you say, the tines shouldn't penetrate that deep.....

Great way to fertilize the lawn?

It's the weight of the tractor that might damage the field. If you are concerned - wait until the ground is dry and hard before "coring" the drainfield area.

I don't think much rainwater soaks in anywhere here. We have clay - orange clay on top of blue clay. When it rains we have pools of water for several days. Aerating is to hopefully break down some of the clay and be able to add some organic material or topsoil over it.

Hopefully I can spear a couple of those damnable moles tunneling around too.
