Core Aerator:pick one

I was wondering if anyone has experience with this Sears aerator?

Seems to be well built and priced right.

See attached pdf.

My Smith 48" looks suspiciously like that. It has 48 tines and the tongue is a little longer. Has the handle on each side just like the Sears. Cost $659.00 . Did have to make several passes and had to water the yard pretty good prior to use.

I ordered the mid west unit 5'. Should be in this week. Will post my thoughts if the ground is not frozen by then.

Slippy, make sure your grass has some growing season left. I've read that you don't want to core aerate unless you have a good four weeks of growing season left. It is for that reason that I've put my aerator away for the season (without using it)--the grass is dormant. Here is the K-State publication about aerating.

( I'm also looking for a good core aerator. ) I have a MTD core aerator, 5 hp self propelled.........(see pic attached) that has about 5 hours use on it that I never use. Not sure of the width without going out to the barn to measure it, but I think it's 36 or 42" I'm in N central Oh & I'll make someone a deal on it if they want it. Send me a PM if anyone's interested.

Thanks Charles. Sounds like good advice. I tried to open your link but it won't work. Is it my computer or is the link bad? Thanks again!

( That is a lesco 30. They we manufactured from 1985 to 2000. ) I measured it tonite.......it is 30" as you said. I got it on a equipment bid from an estate which included a snapper rider (also like new) that I bought for my kids to learn on. I have 3 1/2 acres of lawn at my home property & I have no intention of aerating it to make it grow faster than it does now........I mow too much already..............

The link opens when I click on it, so I don't know. It is a pdf file, so maybe that's causing a problem. I'll back it up one level in this link and you can choose it off the list.

Last Spring I tried a Bluebird brand walk behind core aerator from the local rental shop. I had watered the lawn the night before but it was still too solid to get more than 1 inch of penetration. This fall I purchased a 60" Kioti 3 point hitch model that I was very happy with behind the GC2300. It was able to penetrate pretty well and cleaned itself out well.

I did very little damage to the lawn but I was concerned that the tractor itself might have been compacting the soil, but my lawn came back beautifully in the fall and I am very happy with the Kioti brand. A paid 1070 out the door including tax.
