corn planter

need some help with corn planters.planted corn on some deer food plots,some had access roads wide enough that i hired local farmer with large no til to plant. others i had to work with disk or tiller and plant by hand with garden planter, not any fun. crows pulled out all corn in one of the hand planted spots so i need to replant. think i want a two row planter what should i be looking for, brand and model number. think i would prefer no till if possible and affordable. any reccomendations appreciated

Look for a cut down John Deere 71 Flexi Planter. They are fairly common in 2 row planters. They were originally common in 8, 10 and 12 row configuration but now many have be refurbished and made into 2 row planters. The best part is you can still get parts, seed plates, etc for the JD 71 Flexi units.

They work great. I plant corn, beans and sunflower with mine.

have you used it yet? where did you find it and how much should i expect to pay for one in good condition? can it be stored outside or does it need to be in the barn? thanks for the help!

I have a Flexi Planter 71. I paid a very reasonable $375 on eBay, refurbished and in great shape. Be careful of shipping charges (ask me how I know). Works very well. Mine is a single row unit, which does the job. Were I to do it again, I'd look at the Covington unit which Sweets sells I believe. The Flexi Planter works well, but it's old, and there are maintenance issues.

What are your maintenance issues? I have a 2 row 71 planter and it is so simple I can't imagine many maintenance issues.

Actually you guys are right, don't know why I typed that. My cover door to the chain/sprockets falls off, the tab is broken and I tape it on. The spring holding the corn holder pin from tilting thingy is broken, so that's wired on. Missing one of the little piece of metal things that scrapes the crud off the black disc. Works fine however, just little tiny issues.
