Corn Price Jump

In previous years I've paid 14.50-18$/50lbs f, now it's 17-19$/bag. I expected that to happen last year, but it was delayed.

wow ! Didn't rise that much here. Last I bought was $11.50 per 50# bag. up from $8.50 per 50# bag
Cattle feed has also jumped in price due to higher corn prices.
Fertilizer was 350 per ton. now 590 per ton

I picked up some layer pellets for $13.29-50 # at RuralKing.
Feed mills around here are high.
Use to go to Southern States Coop and buy corn or wheat that came straight off the combine cheap. Not anymore now its all pre packaged.

Bought a bushel of fresh picked sweet corn last weekend for $25.00...about 50 plus ears. Husked it all, blanched and froze it that same day. Darn good eating, even if I do say so myself.

50 ears of too old sweet corn here...... @ 60 cents each = $30!

We've never bought sweet corn. Always had plenty from the garden.

Very difficult to grow corn here!
Sandy soil, requiring daily watering, thus breeding bugs/corn borers and sometimes fungus.

Do you have to blanch it before freezing?

I know little about freezing sweet corn - but I’d like to try as sweet corn is - well - sweet!!

Bought 5 bags for $20 yesterday. They put 14 or 15 ears in a bag so its a heavy+ dozen.

My first planting got flooded out and my replant is still a week away from being ready.

We always have; about 4 or 5 minutes in boiling water, right into sink with ice to cool quickly; into freezer on a cookie sheet, take out next day and vacuum pack about 4 ears to a package. Blanching supposedly kills the enzymes that convert the sugar in the corn to starch, which makes it retain its sweetness. It has always worked great for us, and the corn is exceptionally good.

I have heard of freezing without husking or blanching, but never tried it. I suppose it's worth an experiment with a few ears, but they will still have to be husked unless you cook them on the smoker or grill.
