Corn Round-Up Ready

I am aware that field corn that is impervious to Round-Up is available but does anyone know if there are any varieties of sweet corn that are also impervious to Round-Up as well? If so where might they be found?

The roundup ready corn is not impervious to round up, just less sensitive, you can still burn it up. I don't know of any sweet corn varieties like that but will ask my county agent, Hank Kimball /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

For round-up or yield-gard corn.. you have to sign a contract w/ the seed company.

Last year I grew a hybrid silver queen sweet corn.. then just cultivated once when it was up 6-8 inches.. the canopy of the corn shielded out weeds very well.. I did several acres.. and didn't have to pull a weed.

Did 3600 acres of BT-stacked geene-round up ready cotton one year... the seed company was there at the gin making darn sure that the correct seed was caught at the correct time..

That seed stuff is serious buisness.

Not sure about roundup ready but there is sweetcorn resistant to the earworm. I talked with a salesman last year and you had to plant a minimum of 40 acres for them to sell it to me. The reason they don't want us planting small plots is so there is less chance of the earworm becoming resistant to it. I'll look around and see if I can find the flyer on it, if so will post the name of the seed company. I personaly grow about an acre per year.

I checked with my county agent. His reply was pretty much what the others have said on here. The seed companies guard the seed like gold and might not even sell small quantities. He has not dealt with any roundup ready sweet corn in our county and recommended checking with Pioneer or another seed corn company. He is supposed to be getting me some more finite answers soon.
