Is reddit considered a reliable source? Just asking, the only time I've ever been there I ended up reading posters telling about how great crystal meth was, and that it isn't as bad as it's made out to be.
Reddit is the wild west, you will see the whole range there. Kinda like this thread but no moderator and a huge number of posters. I read that its in the top ten websites by visitor count, worldwide. It's kind of like the random assortment of people you would see in a large city. Including many that you wouldn't want to pay attention to.
I found that chart in a forum dedicated to data charts. While there are loons posting, or more likely replying, in all the forums, in this one serious posts seem to outnumber nonsense by a wide margin because the posters are mostly students who are graphing what they researched, plus a broad spectrum of readers linking to something they found that they wish to share.
Data Is Beautiful
Take a look. I think nearly all the charts and at least the majority of the conversations about them are credible. Surely not all. Just keep a critical eye open for nonsense, 'trust but verify'.
As for other forums on Reddit - my pet peeve no matter what a thread topic is, is some kid will soon say 'hey that's just like this video game that I'll describe in detail' then the thread is buried with kids discussing that, instead of the topic they never heard of, out in reality, that the original poster wanted to talk about. Big PIA. Get off my lawn!
