My daughter was explaining to me that when they take a swab for testing, it has to be processed in so many hours or it is no good. Swabbing is a bit painful (stick up the nose pretty deep) so I think based on that, some areas were not doing the test because the labs didn't have the capacity to process the samples. Saving capacity for critical cases.. I had heard that more labs were being approved so perhaps more testing can be done...

BIL just got booted out of Chicago hospital a day after hip replacement surgery. They said everyone is going to ready the hospital for COVID19 patients.

Ruffdog, that is a very normal stay for hip replacement, believe it or not. My wife had a hip replacement last year. Surgery doesn't last very long. Many are sent home the same day. My wife spent the night, and the Dr told her the next morning when he released her, he could have let her go home the day of surgery.

Guessing you BIL is in otherwise good health. I don't think that dismissal time has much to do with the current situation, really.

You're welcome for the link. I was looking for something to make sense to someone who was going to babysit a 8 month old child. The 23 year old mother was working and her babysitter had a funeral to got to. The one going to do the babysitting fill in job has some conditions that put her at great risk, but it's her grand-child. The 23 year old works in a Dr's office in a large city, and I felt that is not ideal.

I emailed that and a coupe of other links to her. It made sense to her and she changed her mind.

It is just hard even as a health care professionals to know then see the complex factors leading to the spread of COVID-19. Mothers that work outside of the home which often is the case of mothers with children it is just hard. Now there are millions of school age kids without access to "daycare" that more and more schools are closed for as long as to May in some cases. Not going to work may be the only option for some but if that results in no payday then they may be in a world of hurt as well.

I can look at some people and know to not get close because of their outward symptoms but that is not the case when it comes to kids who may seem fine but can be spreading the virus.
